Cool!, you can now breathe easier and start getting some sleep again, no doubt. That's one way to have coffee keeping you awake, guess:yum. Seriously, good deal on the Lazarus of the Laptops, Laura. :cool Maybe you should rename it to 'Lappy Lazarus', eh.;)

    A relief for sure, Phantom.

    hahaha...on Lappy Lazarus.

I prefer to think Uma was resting after a caffeine high (or something). :-D

(omg...I've named my laptop. I feel like those men who name their, um, car. Not that there's anything wrong with that.rolleyes )

What's wrong with naming a laptop? *looks up from typing on Jabberwock* I thought everyone did that?

I just broke my laptop keyboard.

Note to those who like to pop off keys when they arent working right:

    They don't always survive...

Well, I've never named a computer, (though I've called a few names:-o), but I do name my cars - all five of them. Any more, and I'll have to start keeping a name and address book on them.:confused

@ Adryn - Owch!..I've wrecked the odd $15 keyboard, but never a laptop one. Not good!

  14. Adrynalyne

    Huzzah for accidental damage warranties.

    I was smart ;)

Shame it cost almost 50% of the price of the laptop. Figured it was a must with a tablet.

I'm pretty sure I've read that laptop key are glued on and do not like to be popped off.

Which reminds me...I think I'll be calling to get some on this. If nothing else, it'll insure I don't spill anything else on it.

Well, called in support today. I get my mailer tommorrow.

They had absolutely no whims about:

Fixing the broken lock on the left side.
    Fixing the broken keyboard.
    Fixing/replacing the missing rubber pads.
Fixing the loose screws on the bottom.

This is a four month old machine.

Doesn't say much for HP quality though, does it. :(

No. That was many years ago.

So this is just wear and tear?

    :eek

Either you bang away on your poor laptop, or it makes me a bit nervous about my HP.

  23. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

Thats wear and tear. Sans the keyboard fatality, which I mentioned the cause of. I baby my laptop, too.

  24. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

Ah yes...the whole popping off of the keys. I don't think laptops like that very much.

  25. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

It shouldn't have mattered. But alas, it did. It wasn't glued on, and I had done it with several other keys in the past. This one didn't like me though.

  26. LauraR

LauraR MajorGeeks Super-Duper Administrator Staff Member

It was spurning you for past wrongs? :-D

Well, hopefully you'll get it back as good as new. For the age of it, you should.

  27. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

Oh I will. I'm actually being clever about it.

    1. The lock problem will likely cause for a complete screen replacement as its built into the lid. Cah-ching!
    2. They keyboard problem will require a new keyboard entirely. Cah-ching!
    3. If the screws are stripped (not my doing), it will require a new chassis. Cah-ching!
    4. If they go to test it, there is a password on my account. Which means they 'should' upgrade me to Windows 7 as I am eligible, as they must re-image to test. Which frees up my Windows 7 Pro copy. Cah-ching!

Yeah, I planned this carefully. :p

I am interested if you are going to get what you expected under "warranty."

  30. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

I don't see why not. No skin off my back if not. I'd be perfectly content with them fixing the lose screws, broken latch, and keyboard, while replacing the rubber stops.

    *shrug*

I guess it really depends on whats worth it to them, cost and time wise.

They are required to fix it, irregardless though, per my warranty.

Last time I had warranty work done on another machine, that had nothing to do with software, they re-imaged my drive due to password issues :-D Considering it has Windows 7 on it, and is a Windows 7 eligible machine, I cant think of any reason why they won't put the OEM 7 on it.

I suppose I could go one step further and throw the machine out a moving car and seal the deal...but I am not a dishonest person. I just saved up all these issues until I could spare the free time without it, to get it fixed.

Well Laura you are not now alone with such a silly thing happening.

I am very embarrassed to say i knocked a full cup of coffee off my desk and it went straight into my tower.

I have (had) two high spec PCs running one is built into my desk and the other sits alongside it, so i was printing some documents and went to take out a copy from the printer and knocked the (very large) cup of coffee off the desk it landed perfectly upside down on the top of the tower, I immediately got a huge firework display and all the electric in the house went off but not quick enough to save the PC it is fried.
I am not sure how much i will be able to salvage from the wreckage but it was around $1000 to build.

The only good thing i can say is it was not my I7 rig.

So i sit here crying on my keyboard and feeling very stupid. :-o

Oh Bill! :( Damn, I am sorry. As bad as I felt when it happened, I knew there was hope that mine would be fine. You know when there's fireworks, though, that it's a done deal. Hopefully, once you get it taken apart, you'll find some components that are still usable.

Jeez, I feel for you. I bet you just want to cry.

At least you're looking on the one brightside of it not being your i7 that got the coffee bath.

    Ugh...some Christmas present, huh?

Poor Bill! Maybe if you're really, really lucky, it was only the PSU that went out? I'm pretty sure there is a patron saint for computers somewhere you can send some pleas for help to.

I will not bore everyone with the details but i have not been very lucky my whole life.
The good things that have happened are easy to count.
I am financially sound, i have a wonderful wife and daughter plus a nice home but the misfortunes far outweigh the good times.

Someone has to be unlucky to allow the rest to have good fortune.

    I think it is totaled.
My case is a Coolmaster that has a top full of ventilation holes so the coffee had no where else to go but inside.
I pulled the GPU and tried it in my other PC but it is dead, the motherboard will not start and the PSU is totally ruined so it just leaves the HDDs,they are OK but i have not tested the CPU yet.

My beloved (she who must be obeyed) says i am not to start another build for a while (she needs to cool off as well)
