General Protection Fault Error! (GPF)

I'm getting this GPF error when I launch Borderlands from steam. I haven't even been able to install it yet. This is what happens:

Hi

I would first try uninstalling and re-installing the game, also make sure your in the admin account when installing.

Update to the latest ATi driver to latest version (including catalyst control center)

Did the game ask you to install DirextX9c? if it did and you cancelled, let it install on next install of the game or get the DirextX 9c Rutimes from HERE as soem games still need a few Dx9 files, I have Modern Warfare 2 and it needed them.

One thing I have seen with multicore CPUs and sume games its to get around a GPF error is to set the CPU affintiy to one core only,start the game and very quickly hit ctrl-alt-del and goto task manager and then processes, then search for Borderlands and right click and set affinity to one cpu only, need to do this very quickly before the game starts fully.

Is this a retail DVD or a paid download from Steam?
Not trying to run it in a Virtual Drive?

Hello Halo!

I own a Steam version of Borderlands. I can't actually uninstall it because I haven't even been able to get to the installation screen. I have tried to re-downloading it a few times and verified the cache. I've also updated ATI drivers and catalyst....still no good

Now about the DirectX9c, I don't remember ever being prompted to install that version. I must have it though because I have COD4:MW2....Awesome game btw!

I have attempted to set my CPU to one core but I'm just not able to. Borderlands only appears in the processes for a split sec the disappears.

Any other suggestions?

You could always try reinstalling steam

I tried it....same GPF error. Thanks though.

Try installing and running both the ccleaner applications and see if they can fix it.

Also try deleting all files on your computer that are for borderlands and try re-downloading and reinstalling then, there may be a corrupt file that is causing the error

Hi

This has to be the weirdest fix I ever heard, but chatting to one of the IT guys in work whos a massive gamer said even though its an Ati card try installing Nvidias Physx driver!
