Hi, every time i Google a TV model or camera, etc, say to check a review or see what the specs are an annoying site called ciao is always at the top of my search results and displays many results. I am sick of seeing it and never EVER, EVER want to go to their site ever again.
I know how to block the site from being visited and have done so but i really want to stop Google from ever displaying it as a result by permanently blocking it from appearing without having to type search and omit this as a result with a minus or something. What i want is to be able to search in the future by blocking it once and for all instead of trying to remember to do the omit from results which i have to Google every time as to how to do it(omit) that takes longer (bad memory).
I have googled this for a long time and it doesn't seem possible. Thanks in advance. P.S I am using Firefox as a browser on xp

I haven't seen this but just checking online this is coming with google software on your machine. So it's suggested to remove any google software you have on your machine through add/remove programs. Let me know if this helps.

that is a link to the site that i do not want to appear in my Google search results.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion but i am not sure what you really mean. As far as i know i do not have any Google software on my machine (i do not install things i do not need and am very careful to unchecked certain boxes that will install things i did not want ie tool bars). My pc has just been reformatted so should be clean.

I just want to know if it is possible to get Google search results to omit sites that i will never want to visit.

This is a similar question concerning google search results. Someone who hates me put my name on a website that would get me in trouble if my wife ever saw it. When you type my real name into google , this site comes up with my name in it. Is it possible to block this site from my computer so that if she types in my name it wont come up as being on that particular site?

Couldn't you just take the site, lets say www.badstuff.com, and enter it into your HOSTS file with an IP address of 127.0.0.1. That way when she clicked on the link the site would never be found because it will be resolved to your local machine.

Now the only problem with that is that if she typed your name into google the link would still be returned by googl as a search match but the site wouldn't be able to be accessed.

When you block a site in your hosts file, is it saved in file somewhere that it is blocked/ Cos that would screw me too.

Just put the website in restricted sites in internet options security tab.

The entry in the HOSTS file will look like this:
    www.badstuff.com 127.0.0.1

If that's a problem......I guess you said it best.

Good point, but the name of the site will be there too. Ahhhhhh you could use the sites IP address then no name would appear!

If I put the name in a "blocked " list , will that list be seen on my computer?

Good idea. Use the ip address. Can't go wrong there.

By doing this will it stop the website being displayed in the search results and if so could you explain in a little more detail ie how to get the website's ip and then how to block it. As i explained before i know i can stop the site being accessed but i am not trying to sensor my self as i just don't want to go to the site so will not click the link. I am really fed up with having to visually filter it out (USUALLY FIRST FOUR OR SO RESULTS) and simply just don't want it to appear in my Google SEARCH RESULTS.

    Hi

What you could try is adding a search tag to the end of your search say for instance fuji finepix s1500 but add -ciao to the end in this fuji finepix s1500 -ciao and you should not get that sites listings.

Or use another search engine and see if its better, Bing or Clusty are good and I tend not to use Google these days.

to find an ip address of a website, open command prompt and type
ping www.majorgeeks.com (or whatever the website is.)
