How should I ask a good question? The answer is out there. I want it.

I've been chastised by Major Attitude:

    Short:
"You need to learn how to ask a question"
    It's arguable, I think I did well.
    "wait for the answer"
I waited for the answer, it is there but it didn't came.
    "System specs"
They were not absolutely needed. The answer could be done without. I was asked for them and gave them anyway.
    "be more polite"
Respect is kept, now shown. Those who do the other way usually cheat. I was just being emotive. Politeness is used by unrespectful people as a guide to respectfulness. They also disrespect negative emotion, because they consider it a liberty towards their own natural uneducated will to irrational destructive behavior. I don't believe in politeness. I don't like fakers. I appreciate good willed men. I sanction some of the other kind. Don't preach to me or anybody, be curt; watch Pulp Fiction, again. On the other hand, I will hand out some preaching - the way it has to be done, on the thorough side.

    Issue 1 (of 3):
I know people know the answer and it's easy for them to give it to me.

On this question of mine: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1403797#post1403797

    1) I bumped. Guilty.
It's not allowed. But this is wrong. No, not the no-bump rule, in an absolute way, but the entire logical thread including it is invalid because of a minimum of one mistake.
:The people that could give me the answer will not go back in a huge forum history to hunt for free-problem-solving potential. Everybody but a few will look a few pages back until they are personally through, then do something else.

    2) I did not give my system specs. Not guilty.
There is no need for system specs, this is not the special case where I need help in the form of total guidance.

Quite different, I have just asked a question of possibility: "could it be something else?" Something else than ICMP, ICMP in an absolute fashion. Example: "Yes, there is at least one possibility under completely healthy behavior in which ICMP does this." Add the same plus "in which this could be caused by a rootkit masking it's way out or in in some fashion" or "in which somebody is trying out your ports". It's my choice whether I will continue with further analysis or not and others' choice to give me help. See point 1 above.

    3) "You need to learn how to ask a question"
Allow me to retort: you need to learn how to compress communication by calculating quickly all the possibilities of what is implied and pointing out swiftly anything that needs further consideration before making an incrementally decisive move.
I don't want to write much, but think fast, do less and achieve more.

    Issue 2:

    This question of mine: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=188797

    1) System specs. Not guilty.
I do not need guidance here. I need an exact answer to the question. This answer might come in no more than 3 words.
    Example: "anisotropic sample optimization".
You don't need to tell me that you assume I use windows, just say: "windows: anisotropic sample optimization. more help? more details."

    2) "Being rude". Not guilty.
Quote: I said "Anybody know what the hell that is?"
This is not being rude. It's an emotion. There are smilies to the right, but I prefer to display emotion in an authentic manner.
There are people of many types. I usually do not display emotions facially because my affection is much more complex and evolved than most people's and I do not resonate with them. (You do not have the right to get even slightly offended by my differences. If you want offense just tell me and I will bring you down.)
Do not be rude to people who take a larger freedom in expressing themselves. You actually interpreted my emotion as being a predication of other people through the word "hell". This is wrong. It is I who take of fence here. Personally, I'm not offensive unless you really take a hit. Don't guess at it. It is I who feel like being in hell sometimes, not other people consciously doing wrong because they are just soo soo bad. Is my own feeling actually a statement of truth? MY feeling? Don't tell me. It's just a feeling.

    Issue 3:
    Efficiency of forums.

I respect this forum since I've found the good tutorial on malware protection that is served in concert with the help.

In ancient times people went to forums and directly communicated with others.

Communication in forums must be regulated differently than is.
A bump is not allowed, but nothing else will bring my question where the vast majority might take it into consideration.
Since major geeks in general is so cool it might do things like term categorization and search instead of word level. Give a system that offers a list of terms for posters to attach, so if I know things about some stuff I might choose to solve 5 problems on those terms a day.

The way things are set up, there is a great quantity of force against procedural thinking.
99% of people's problems are because of wrong knowledge. Fixed systems of workflow are a help for the not highly skilled in anything. Skill in any one thing is directly proportional to how much you can delve in the procedural functioning of your brain. Procedural functioning in brains is almost 180 degrees from the plain old following the procedure by the book.

If you make rules that protect the unskilled then make rules that protect the unskilled and offer ever higher freedom to the skilled.
This thing about a stamp standard in posting on forums is insane. Repeat: insane. If you follow the path you stop thinking and then you need more helping paths that create the same phenomenon. (SKIP THIS: For example, in my crap country where civilization has not yet come, forums have such strict and explicit rules that they are populated by stupidity and trollness almost exclusively. This is the real image of the forums, foreign ones are "upgraded" by civilization and it's less obvious there.) In forums there must be implemented a maintained guiding system of interpretation and systematic interaction between issues and users, that never ever imposes the smallest stamp-like procedure.
Everybody uses a semantic coding of language and behavior that makes them follow the rules while violating them freely. Example: If I'm not allowed to insult, I can suggest something that suggests something bad, then I usually leave the ground and never become a thinking, engaged user in the community because the only way to fight back was to take a hike and mind my own royal business. Stamp-like rules CREATE this behavior and respective definition of the individual. This is THE reason why forums are plagued with the problems that people get banned for. Count the number of users that invest their interest in forums and you approximately have the number of victims that they make. I was since old times disgusted with forums, and those with strict rules got only slightly better. Because their strict form did not welcome a good enough information environment anyway. Narrow trained American specialists might have another opinion, but my answer to all of them is the movie THX 1138. I would back that up with just about crushing critique on their general education - by the time I get slightly warmed up in the discussion about general training the general specialist is overloaded and blown from hours before, usually from the first 5 minutes. Try me. I want you to. I'm hungry for your pain. I want to feel it.
I used a semantic scheme that people usually find insufficient only because they do not take the liberty to think implicitly.
I can not use implicit, fast communication at large because people violate their brain's procedural functioning. People follow rules that procedural functioning imposes, arguing that one thing can be many, but in fact their interpretation stops interpreting things beyond the first stage of interpretation. If one thing can be many, then more details are needed, right? But if I explicitly give more details, then I'm already choosing the only path that the declaration and subsequent interpretation follow!
Please do interpret the facts, their interpretation, the interpretation of their interpretation and the interpretation after, and allow me to express myself in just a few words. Let it flow. Also I think there should be some stuff in the discourse to not be egocentric, some objectivity... Is it just me, or is everybody insane? AAAA! This is hell...

    ...

    no' wa' I'm sayin' dawg?

I think I talked to you five or six times at work every day this week...! :eek You're the one who called in, said "my new RAM isn't working. Why?", and when I asked for details and tried to troubleshoot your problem, you lectured me on how incompetent I was and asked to speak to "someone more knowledgeable".

Everyone who has ever worked in tech support knows your type. We vent about you on our breaks, we hate your guts, and when the line goes really quiet right after you said something it's because the tech on the other end hit the mute button so they can either laugh at you, sigh in exasperation, or express their honest opinion about you before they reply back to you.

Your written communication skills need some serious work before you will ever be able to get help on a forum. So do your social skills. I'll give you some starting help:

    1. Do not assume that you know what we need to know in order to be able to help you. You don't. The sooner you realize that, the better.

    2. Do not assume that your "compressed communication" actually works when you talk to anyone else. Give out details, tell us the who, what, where, when, and how. Or to phrase it slightly differently, give us the entire story, not just the punchline.

    3. Fix your attitude as soon as you possibly can. I've seen people be banned from this site for a lot less crap and BS than what you're spewing here.

4(and last). Every single person who offered to help you in this forum is a volunteer who offers that help for no other reason than because they want to be nice and helpful. A little appreciation and gratitude would not be out of place.

Welcome to the forums, enjoy your stay! Brief at is will be. :)

The above quote is the only thing in your post that makes any sense at all.

If you are going to engage in pedantic prose as a means of "striking back" or demonstrating an imagined intellectual superiority, you really need to be sure you understand your chosen weapon . . . because in this instance you only managed to shoot yourself in the literary foot.

At any rate, not all the pedantry in the world changes the fact that elsewhere in this forum, at some point in time, you behaved like a doofus and got called on the carpet for it.

    Know what I'm saying, dawg?

AWAT, i would like to set something straight here.

We are volunteers. We do not get paid to do this. This is nobody's job. We are just people who enjoy helping people.

We are NOT perfect in any sense, but who really is?

So, if someone is trying to help you, you should be a little nicer and help them to help you.

    What goes around comes around!

Do you know what I'M sayin' dawg?

@ awat: Three things you should learn before posting again.

    1) "He who speaks at great length, says little".
    2) "Patience is a virtue."
    3) "Do not bite the hand that feeds you."

Want a good question? Ask yourself what these quotes mean, and how they should be interpreted. You claim to be of intellectual superiority. Learn the rules of the board and common courtesy. Come see us when you have.;)

Why is everybody lashing on awat??

He/she got a misconception.. just clear it..

    Awat dear,

Look the forums are run by the people who are volunteers and have a job of their own and besides a family to give time to and look after.. so if any one misinterpreted your post,or didn't replied soon, don't get angry.. that may be a misconception but I don't think so closing the thread for just using the word "hell " is justified..

Anyway he(Major attitude) is the owner of MG.. it is up to him what he does..

And he has got an attitude like his name suggests..

    hehehehhehe.. just kidding LOL

Engineer you really do not learn do you?

    Taunting MA is very hazardous.

He is the owner and founder of the site and can do what he damn well pleases.

We all realize that English may not be the first language of the person posting and subsequently we make exceptions plus we are very tolerant but long convoluted post that just wander around without actually giving us enough information to work with are a wast of time for both the poster and the reader.

The best way is to be concise tell us the problem and give us some details of the system, XP is totally different than Vista and windows 7.

Please respect the guys n gals that give freely of their time and knowledge here and remember this is primarily a tech site although we do venture opinions on other subjects.

IMHO,despite our varying cultures and ethnicities, all members should be treated with and show respectfullness; that there's a forum decorum (written & not - but expected) that we all follow. In the event that a member is reminded of that, any member posting "Why is everybody lashing on...." is perceived as having that same mind-set.

Rightly so - the Site Owner(s), Administrators, and Moderators should be deemed worthy a higher degree of that same respect, because of what they do for us all.

Alright everyone... let's not jump on the Engineer the way we did with the OP. :)

Awat is a self-inflated jerk with a ego the size of Mahattan, and delusions about his own intellect and importance that you normally only see in 13-year old cheerleaders.

Engineer is just misunderstanding us, most likely due to a combination of not reading Awat's post (and I can't say I blame him--I did, and it gave me a headache), and seeing a group of MG regulars gang up to attack "the new guy". In this case the new guy brought it on himself by being a complete tool with abrasive manners, and unfortunately, as Moriarty pointed out, anyone defending him will be seen as fully agreeing with him, and will immediately be attacked as well.

So based on the fact he is literate, and not a complete tool, let's give Engineer the benefit of doubt and back off a little. :)

    Hear, Hear!

One of the reasons I like MG is that abusive behavior towards others is not tolerated. No harsh profanity, no dissing of others, all in all a pretty well mannered and intellectual site. I don't have to be concerned with sending other people to this place.

Contrast that to almost any other site or blogs.

    Good job MGs!
