I cannot load up my computer at all so that I can try to clean it up! I think perhaps limewire did this but I am not sure. Can someone help me get started? I cannot enter set up or login and I do not know what to do.

    :cry

If you cannot boot the PC in any boot mode ( safe, last known good, normal) then there is not much we can recommend, but the below which is really better discussed in the Software Forum. For all we know, the problems may not have anything to do with malware, but if you cannot boot, we cannot check. The first item should be your starting point.

    Hello!
Thank you for your quick reply. Sorry :-o I did not tell you but I do have Windows XP Professional. I read up on how to start in Safe Mode and I am able. Is the next step to see if this is a malware problem? Please let me know.

Thank you in advance for your time.

    Christine:)

Run the below in safe boot mode

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Note: You will not be able to install SUPERAntiSpyware in safe boot mode. If you already have it installed, just see if it will run. If it does not run, just skip it and continue.

If still having a problem after running the cleaning procedure, also explain exactly what happens when you try to boot normally

    I did get into safemode and started to do the READ ME FIRST...here is where I got stuck;

I could not view hidden files because I cannot use right click on my mouse and could not access FOLDER OPTIONS on the TOOLS menu. I tried just pressing 'o' but that would not work either.

Next I checked MS CONFIG and it was normal already. I reboot in normal mode and I am stuck at loading up (I see Windows Live Messenger) and cannot get out of it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help,

    Christine:)

The below is a quote from the first section of the READ & RUN ME
Thus you need to keep going. Also you obviously need to stay in safe boot mode so you cannot select Normal Boot mode with MSconfig.

How do I know if I have a 64 bit computer?

    There are many ways.
    • Right click My Computer and select Properties and see if it says anything about a 64 bit OS
    • Or open Windows Explorer (by right clicking Start and select Explore) and see if there is a folder name Program File (x86) in the root directory. If this folder exists, it is 64 bit. If you only see Program Files, it is 32 bit.
    • Just run MGtools and watch the messages in the command prompt window. It will tell you which OS.

I cannot get into 'Mode' on Spybot. Should I not use this scan?

We did not ask you to run a Spybot scan. We just said disable Teatimer if you have it running. And I repeat the below again

I could not check if teatimer was running because I could not access Mode. So I just skip it I guess. I read what you quoted but I just seem to be missing many steps. Sorry for being slow at getting it. :(

I cannot save root repeal either.

    Thanks for your time,
    Christine

My computer is running great now! Thank you so much! I found out while I was doing the cleaning that my mouse was defective which made the whole process much harder. I got a new mouse and things went much more smoothly. Yippee!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    You're welcome. Merry Christmas.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
