    Hello,
I play this game called S.u.n Soul of the ultimate nation, When i first played this game it played with no problem, but after a few days it would lag 5 - 10 mins into game play to the point of being unplayable. Ive heard and been told many reasons why I could be having this problem, HD needing defraged; I tested this and that wasn't it. HD too slow; is 7200rpms slow? lol. virtual memory issue; Nope!. Paging file set wrong; Nope. Not enough free space? Ive tested this as well and had the same problem even with 50% free space.
Background programs running ect.. NOPE!! I close EVERYTHING to put full cpu usage to running this game.. It's not my internet speed either, I've done speed test's it's plenty fast enough. I don't have viruses or spy ware or anything like that either.

I thought that just maybe the problem could be my low pc specs.
    2.0ghz p4, 1gb ram, 256mb gfx card, 32gb HD.

But not only have i talked to other players with similar system specs who say they don't have this kind of problem; But i have also seen for my self that my machine handled this game almost flawlessly for about a week after a c drive reformat; this lasted about a week before the problem came back; It kinda Pisses me off when ppl continue to say it's my low specs. Idk; just seems odd that it would - could be that after a week of game play free of lag.

I don't know what else it could be though.

One problem really does lead to another; I been trying to do the user profile thing, I made the user profile but when i go to services and click a service i want to disable, log on tab and in the hardware profiles the ones I made, Normal mode and gaming mode; I disable the service for gaming mode, OK then apply; I disabled many services not needed for gaming mode, Restarted and went back into services to discover most of the services i disabled were not disabled.

I thought maybe it has something to do with the "Log on as" Being that I don't understand how to use it or what I'm supposed to do here, as everything ive tried has failed and nowhere in the tutorials ive looked at has any info on this. To make it short; the tuts are faulty and not as easy as they make it seem.

It would seem that in Log on tab> Log on as, I'm supposed to Tick "this account" Put in a user name and password. Ive tried this and it hasn't worked yet, I'm unsure what I'm supposed to put here if anything.

Once this failed I clicked browse next to the "This account" Box, but if this is what I'm supposed to do; It won't work either; It says "Enter the object name to select" Once again I tried everything i could think of and nothing worked.

What's going on, what's the proper way to disable services for my "Gaming mode" Profile??

    This is really frustrating :-D

Checkut the walkthrough at Dedoimedo, which also contains a link to the MS view. Brighthub has a 3-part series on understanding hardware profiles.

Sadly I don't see anything in there; Any info to what I'm doing wrong or why I'm having the problem I'm having with the services not disabling.

I've no idea what you may be doing wrong, that's why I sent you fresh links where you could check the steps you made/re-read someone else's take on it; did you read the MS overview?

I think I figured out whats going on, Just because you disable something; doesn't mean it will show up as disabled; What it seems to be doing is; In the status; It's not saying started or anything, It's just blank; Does that mean it's disabled?? I noticed that all the services I disabled have this blank space in status, But most of the start up types won't change.

But if this were the case; Windows time is one of the ones I disabled which did not change start up type but has a blank status; But Windows time = the clock at the botem right corner, right?? If the blank space means it's disabled wouldn't the clock not be there??

    It's still there.

You really need to go back over some of those links to get a grasp of what you are trying to do and the effects of enabling/disabling certain Services on your system; Blackvipers site has all the info you need about all Services.

If a Service's status shows as blank, it isn't running. Windows Time has nothing to do with whether the clock shows in the system tray ...

It appears that i was right; I did skim back through it even though I already have a good understanding of the windows services; what they do and which ones are safe to disable. Ive used the disabling services method many times with different games ive played; even used programs to temporarily disable and turn off all unnecessary services while in game. Programs such as game boost found here in the top download section.

But as i said everything ive tried has failed and Ive noticed when the game's on, the CPU usage is maxed, 100%

I guess it is my low specs at fault; Then again as i also said before if that were the case then why did the game run lag free for about a week after reformat?

I just done some testing; I opened fire fox and task manager> Performance to monitor the CPU usage and just scrolling the page up and down spiked CPU usage to 100%; CPU temp durring the spike was over 80c; Even for a 2.0 GHZ Celeron is that normal? lol.

Maybe you should rethink what happened during that first week, updates installed, security apps, whatever - they all have an impact.

No to both usage and temp. Do you know whether your monitoring software is accurate with your motherboard?

the only updates i done were the drivers for my video card and then SP2. that's it, and these updates were done before any game play. So that couldn't be it; in fact I tested that theory by installing everything before game play because i had the same thought. Back to the above post; 100% cpu usage 80c + just with the usage of fire fox?? Idle temp is roughly 40c. Could this problem be caused by not having any thermal grease on the cpu?

Like it's over heating and stressing the CPU more than what it should? Thus; I'm getting the huge 100% cpu usage lag spikes..

I used Task manager to monitor CPU usage, if that isn't correct then something is seriously wrong right?? For the CPU temp I used aida32. Although one day in bios during start up I noticed CPU temp was at 72c.

Are you running a PC without any thermal paste on the CPU?

lol yep.. it's been that way for a very LONG time, maybe the CPU is even damaged because of it? I have a p4 2.5 ghz coming in the mail, Got my heat sink and fan and paste and everything else i need; I would go ahead and put some paste on this one but then i wont have enough for the new one. I pretty much have to replace the whole area; heat sink mount, heat sink and fan, brackets, CPU, ect.

You have to have thermal paste, I dont care how long it ran like that its called luck. You have wasted a lot of peoples time leaving out valuable information as this was a no brainer. We have people who really need help who have thermal paste on their CPU. Your problem is heat. Play a game, your PC heats up everywhere from CPU to drives to fans. Next.
