I got myself a Nokia 5800 Express Music, Touch Screen, nHD Screen, Buitiful sound, still trying to find some decent games, apps, even tried finding a graphic demo like VIP2 - Popsy Team, but doesn't seem to be a phone friendly enviroment for graphic demo's....

Any tips for this model handset?

Im thinking about picking one up when my att contract is up. How does droid compare to iphone in terms of speed and functionality? Does it have a good app store too? and can you upload videos and stuff to it?

Its fairly comparable. Its a young device/platform, so the iPhone is a bit more polished. The apps too are more polished, but there are a ton and its growing quickly.

To compare sheer amount of apps to date though, the iPhone stomps Android. Try it out. The Moto Droid is a love/hate thing for some. I like the hardware keyboard, others hate it, and so on. The screen is gorgeous, and multi-touch can be had with some third party apps/tinkering/hacking.

A big plus? Flash 10.1 is coming to Android 2.0 and up!

It is very fast, like the iPhone and multitasks like a beast.

    I have

    iPhone 3G

and just picked up a week ago a HTC HD2 WinMo phone

I think thats the thing Jeremy, the Android and WinMo 6.x phones multitask whereas the iPhone sucks at that, you close one app to open another and it closes and any info is lost, so bad for cut and paste or using say mapping and email and weather at same time.

I love the iPhone and think its a really easy smartphone to use and has some +'s over my HTC, but it also has some really bad -'s as Apple dont let you do anything to the software, whereas Android and WinMo phones you can tweak them and install whatever apps you find online.

An thats the lure of the iPhone in its apps database, its huge, and Android and WinMo do need to catch up, WinMo has alot but they are scattered all over the net , until the Windows Mobile Store gets really up and running and IMHO that wont be till mid next year.

Flash player would be great to have on my iphone.[insert gripe about Apple here] My contract with att is up next year in august so i have some time. unless something awesome happens with iphones in the next year, ill most likely make the switch over to verizon.

I'd wait and see if Apple release the iPhone 4G as thats the next big thing and Apple are prone to releasing their hardware yearly, the 3Gs was only an interim update, woooo 1 more megapixel, Video and a compass!!! hardly earth shattering as from account of friends the battery life is not different to the 3G, so the 4G will IMHO be the next big thing from Apple and you maybe in the right timeframe for the release as its possible for 3rd 4th Q 2010

Just dont know how far the USAs mobile infastructure is geared for 4G, and the iPhone does miss out on some of the HSDPA (3.5G) phones speeds as a straigh comparrison of my iPhone with HTCs internet on same network is the HTC and its Opera browser kills Safari for speed, the only + for Safari and the iPhone is its dropdown scrolly wheel thing as the menus list on Opera is not fantastic, but maybe Firefox Mobile will fix that.

Not very much according to sprints website. Apparently they're currently the only one who has a 4g network as of now in the US, not sure about EU, and there is only a handful of coverage areas in a handful of states with 4g.

Thats assuming their website is accurate of course.

Itll be great to see a 4g coverage area like 3g has. i guess its supposed to have 3-6mbps download speeds. Thats pretty amazing.

dont think many 4G networks in EU outside Norway IIRC where Nokia are testing.

HSDPA is good over 3G but 4G sounds like it will be superb adn make phones like the iPhone, android and winmo large screen phones be superb for media, be that video or internet.

I have a Droid also. I love it except for one issue that I am having and it is driving me crazy for as little of a thing as it is.

I have a Sprint HTC Touch and won't give it up. Have modded the phone enough to make sure it does everything that I need and works without flaws. Maybe the occational soft reset but I haven't had to hard reset it for 1.5 years now.

However, if the HTC HD2 comes out, I might jump on the bandwagon.

Yeah I gather its not out in the USA yet, is in Europe and I'm very happy with the change to the HTC HD2 ( had mu HTC HD2 for two weeks now and used to its options) over the iphone I have still..... mush more customisable, just need to deal witht he satnav app CoPilot this week, coming up as Portugese! not one of the languages I support ;)

HTC Sense is neat, the weather live on the main screen is a winner, doesnt add to the usability but looks great and a seller imho

While its not centrally as the iphone app supported you can find apps all around the net untith the Windows Marketplace site gets up and running better, the HD2 also has had a fair few updates this month so will be more stable and some minor issues fixed before it hits the USA shores.

Still a mix of iPhone and WinMo phone in the HD2 would be a great phone.

Thanks Halo for that info. I hear a ton of good things about the HD2. My only complaint about the phone I have is that the screen size is smaller than I want it to be. After that, I am happy with it.

Well da.bell, you wont be disaponted with the HD2 as its 4.3in screen is huge but while its about 5mm LxH bigger than an iPhone its thinner and no heavier dispite the screen size, can watch a film with ease and its hires screen is perfect.

Camera is also very good for a phone based one, not as good as the high spec Sony Ericsson ones but damn good and has touch focus and many options, GPS is far superiour to many phones IMO and scary thing is its had to to 10m of where I am and using Googles Latitude is even scarier (no want friends knowing where I am)

Email is better on iPhone, its not bad on the HD2 but the cut down Outlook looks poor, just need the Windows Mobile 7 software update due next year to fix this or a 3rd party app, internet browsing via Opera is much quicker on HD2 over Safari, although Safari is more intuitive to start with.

All in all I prefer the iPhone for apps and the HD2 for screen and being able to hack the registry and add any app I want over Apple dictating!

HSDPA on the HD2 is also handy over the iPhones 3G, but you need to be in an area that supports HSDPA, webpages load much quicker, quick speedtest of phone HSDPA was that it was near 3mb/s DL and bonus is that I cat tether my netbook or laptop to its HSDPA connection so using the phones internet and the netbook/laptops power and apps! (depends on your provider tho if they have this enabled, I know USA providers are not bets for giving all options unless a huge cost is added to your bill)

You all have some nice phones, I like mine but my best friend bought a iPhone 3GS 16GB and I must say, its the best phone I have seen so far, very smooth, responsive, and the games and touch motion really work, haven't seen graphics on a mobile like that before!

    Good phone+garbage network= garbage.

Apple should rethink their contract, as ATT is making them look bad.

There are a lot of rumors, but this one is 100% unsubstantiated. Maybe it happens, maybe not. The way Verizon is drooling over Android, I suspect the latter.

iPhone has had more time to mature than Android phones. I have a feeling Android will be giving Apple a run for its money soon.

Personally, I don't think I would ever be happy with a platform locked down as much as an iPhone. I shouldn't have to root something just to be able to install apps outside of the app store. Thats ridiculous. I find it amazing people bitch about how Verizon locked down their phones so much, then praise iPhone when its equally locked down. I guess when its locked down with the stuff you want on it already....

Anyway, I like the Android OS and hope it flourishes. Competition only helps us as the consumer.

Its the software operating system that the phone uses.

Android is the OS that various phones run.

Droid is the model name of the Motorola A855

HTC also has a Droid Eris, which is an Android phone.

It's a lot of variations on the same name, unfortunately.

finally got a screen shot of the problem

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/Burning_Monkey/phone/screenshot.jpg

when in the contact list, and you touch some one's picture to do what ever, the slider bar pictured will come up with all available methods of contacting said person.

I regularly get where it comes up with 2 entries for some one even though both are the exact same address and same method of contact.

I think it has to do with me having gmail open on my computer, chatting there and not signing out on the phone.

  33. Adrynalyne

    Adrynalyne Guest

Interesting. I will see what I can find out. You don't have that contact duplicated (or the info therein), do you? When Gmail synced my contacts from my BB to the cloud, I had duplicates, and then once again when I got the Droid.

there is no duplication in my contact list.

I have narrowed it down to it coming from having gmail open on my desktop then responding or opening a chat there, and not signing out on my phone.

I submitted a bug report and we will see if Google does anything.

from your screenshot, if you just touch the talk word bubble, I get what I pictured. you probably go right to gtalk
