Hi guys and gals. I'm looking for an inexpensive (cheap), but somewhat decent sounding pair or set of speakers for my computer.

I'm not looking to rock the house, just want something that is better sounding than the average $5 pair of speakers.

If I can be in the $20 to $30 range and not sound like the average clock radio, I'd be a happy camper.

    Here is my mobo, http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317948
so hopefully, I don't need to go all out to get somewhat decent sound.
    TIA!

    Do you go shopping much?

Sorry, I do understand that there are those folks who can't.

Ok, so you bypass the $5 speakers, and move on down the rack (or the web page if you're internet shopping) to the $29.95 to $49.95 speakers. You should be able to find just what you want.

If you like some BASS in your music, you probably want to look at the three-speaker systems with a Sub-Woofer. "Altec Lansing" and "Boston" make excellent choices.
I have the Altec-Lansing and it ROCKS like a $300 Stereo System.

Happy Shopping and Happy New Year!

I think however these speakers are ideal for you!

If you don't like these, i suggest having a look around the logitech website for others, as i have had 4 sets of logitech speakers and highly recommend them!

Hey, considering your budget, have you given a thought to getting a half decent set of headphones instead? You ain't gonna get any decent oomph from any speaker set that you could get at that price.

I know you asked for speaker recommendations, I can't give you any good options.:(

True, but they will definitely be better sounding than the average $5 pair of speakers.

I picked up a cheap pair of Altec Lansings BXR 1220 for my Acer mini lap top, I was not going to spend much, they are powered off the USB. I was amazed when I fire them up they are unbelievable for beer can sized speakers, they are every bit as good as my powered Phillips that I have treasured for many years.

Hi again and thanks to all who responded. My daughter gave me her Altec Lansing 2.1 that I bought her last year.

She got a new desk and doesn't have the room for this set-up. Frankly, neither do I.
The only place for the sub is right next to my tower and I'd be worried about not getting enough airflow for the computer, so that's not really an option.

I'm mainly looking for a 2 speaker set-up. I had a pair of JBL Platinum speakers that came with my Compaq 7550 monitor and they sounded pretty decent, so I do believe that there may be something else out there.

I guess that I could always hunt down another pair of JBLs.

Having the Sub near the tower would bother me due to the magnet in the speaker, maybe I am over cautious.

I'm actually concerned with temperatures due to the sub and tower being in a confined space together. Didn't even consider the magnet as an issue.

I'm going to pick up a pair of Altec Lansing BXR1220, due to them being usb powered and having favorable reviews.

Sorry if you think I gave you a bum steer, I have been very pleased with mine. My other half is an aerobics nut and blasts the crap out of them and they seem to stay quite clean. Try fooling around with the settings in the sound section that may get them more to your liking.

No worries Phil. They sound somewhat decent, just not what I was looking for.

I appreciate any and all suggestions and would never fault someone else for not having the same preferences as me.
