Ok yesterday my computer was acting very spastic. I ran my Mcaffee and found nothing. I thought this to be odd because of the very slow pace of my computer on top of the various windows that kept popping up that were difficult to go away. So I updated my virus protection (no new updates) and I ran a scan again. This time it picked up 5 trojans.....all of them ended with the word artemis mcaffee said that it safely removed the virus and that I needed to restart my computer. I did. BIG MISTAKE. My computer boots up and goes to our user home page. We have 4 users on our home computer I can pick any one of them and the same thing happens. It acts as if it is logging in and will go to the desktop but before it completely loads it turns right around and logs you off. I have not run across any helpful information and someone recomended here to maybe gets some insight.

ANY AND ALL HELP IS GREATFULLY APPRECIATED!

I have moved your thread to the software forum. We can not help you in malware until your system will boot to a stable state.

You might want to try this:
How to recover from a corrupt registry.

No I can't start in safe mode either. It starts to, and then I get a blue screen that says all activity was stopped to prevent damage to critical parts.

I have went to mcaffees website and to be honest I don't really get what exactly it is I just know that the 5 files it detected all ended with artemis and it was classified as a trojan.

This should do the trick and get you back in to Windows ...

Fix Windows XP LogOn/LogOff Loop ..... thinkinginpixels

It appears you also have a Safe Mode boot problem, which is a different problem, but related to malware most likely.

Ok I went and followed the guys instructions. I did find them to be very easy to follow and understand. However I am still not able to log in in safe mode and now when it logs in it doesn't turn around and log me out but it doesn't load the desktop either. just the background picture that I had. no start button nothing. I have sent an email to the gentleman I was referred to but I thought I would post the log here and see if someone else might could provide some insight. At this point I just want to copy some files and then just reformat the whole thing and just get Mcaffee off my computer. I was appalled at all the things that the spybot scan detected.

Thanks for the feedback on what you have just done.

Try the following to get access to your system and enable you to "copy some files" ....

At the Desktop, try to bring up the Task Manager ...
Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc (all at the same time)
Does the Task Manager window appear or do you get a message ... ?

If the Task Manager appears ...
On the Applications tab, click on "New Task".
In the dialog box that opens, type "explorer.exe" and press ENTER key.
Do things look normal now, with Desktop icons, and Taskbar/Start button?

Edit: I think you should edit your post if possible and remove the attached file. It is not appropriate to post that particular log in this forum area.
    Thank you.

It will not allow me to edit my post. I am sorry I didn't realize that log would be a problem. I just thought it would be more helpful than me just saying it didn't work. If a mod would like to delete the file please feel free. Again sorry.

when I try that it says that my task manager has been disabled by the administrator.....I am the administrator on my computer the rest of the family is set up as normal.

Please try Safe Mode again: Also try Safe Mode with Networking and Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

If no luck, try Debugging Mode.

When you try any of these options .... if you don't get the BSOD screen .... do you see the choice to log in with the Administrator account, rather than your own account? If so, log in to the Admin account and try doing what I suggested in my last post again, to see if you can get access to the system.

If none of the above work, we will need to try a different approach and/or consider your available options. Do you have personal files on the computer that you wish to recover?

Actually I have tried safe mode and safe mode with networking. Those don't work I get to a blue screen that says your computer has a virus and has been stopped to prevent serious damage. Yes at this point I just want to copy some files and my bookmarks and just reformat....

I have not tried the debugging mode and will give that a shot and see what happens

    Too easy!

Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer

Backup your personal files to an external USB hard drive, or another hard drive of some sort, or CD/DVD.

Note: Files with the following extensions should not be backed up:
    • .exe
    • .scr
    • .htm
    • .html
    • .xml
    • .zip
    • .rar
    • .asp
    • .php

    To see the file extensions:
    • Show hidden and system files and folders by doing the following:
    • Launch Windows Explorer by opening "My Computer". On the menu bar, go to
    • Tools > Folder Options > and click on the "View" tab
    • Using the scroll bar at the side of the dialog box, find and check-mark "Show hidden files and folders", UNcheck "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)", and also UNcheck "Hide extensions for known file types".
    • Click "Apply to All Folders", click "Apply" and click "OK".

Ok after some tweaking I was able to fix my task manager and while I can log in now and I have my desktop picture I still have no icons. I can through task manager pull up my programs. I am currently running spybot scan and was then going to follow up with a malware run and see what popped up. Should I leave this thread here or should I go back to the malware forum?

I suggest that you attempt to complete the steps in the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide . If you can do that, then create a new topic in the Malware Removal forum. It may be helpful if you include a link to this topic.

If you have any questions or problems completing the necessary steps, then post back here, and we will attempt to help you.
