    Hi,
When I try to open Internet Explorer a DOS window pops up and disappears almost immediately. I managed to get a screen print before it disappeared. At the top of the Window was: \PROGRA-1\INTERN\iexplore.exe. The message was: Program too big to fit in memory.
I ran a scan with Malwarebytes. One rogue file was removed but hasn't helped. All other programs appear to work. Without the internet I cannot download other anti-spyware tools.
Have you see this before? Are you able to assist?
    Many thanks
    Paul

While it is not impossible, it really does not sound like a malware problem so I suggest that you post in the Software Forum.

Otherwise if you still want to check for malware, download our tools using another PC and burn them to a CD or flash drive and then copy to this problem PC to run them. This way we can determine whether you have malware or not.

Also install another browser like FireFox so that perhaps you will have internet access.

    Hi Chaslang,

Many thanks for this. I installed Firefox which works fine. I also then reinstalled Intener Explorer and now that works!! I guess it was indeed a software problem. As a matter of interest, what is your view regarding using Internet Explorer as opposed to Firefox? For example, is Firefox safer and less prone to viruses? Or are the two browsers pretty much the same?

Once again, thanks for taking the time to help.

    Regards,

    Paul

IE8 is actually safer and has fewer security holes than Firefox at this time. In the past people used to safe Firefox was safer. In reality it was only safer because malware creators did not care about it because very few people used it. Now that it is very popular, it is a major contributor to malware problems.
