    Hi,

    So over a week ago, I had a trojan, which I cleaned up (or attempted to) with malware bytes and my antivirus, but since then I've had three other fake "antivirus" trojans pop up. So... help? I've attached all my logs. My computer is doing better since I ran all of these scans, but my google results are still being hijacked, so somethings not right.

    The only thing out of ordinary about the scans was that while doing the MG tools one, Hijackthis told me I should consider deleting my hosts file because it was such a mess. I didn't do anything yet, but I thought I should mention it.

    Oh, and I have windows xp.

    Thanks for any help!

    Actually, I don't seem to have the google hijack problem any longer. So things may be okay now, but how can I find out for sure?

    Let's just do this:
    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now:
    Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.

    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • Click the Make Writeable? button. (if you only see a Make Read-Only selection, it is already writeable so skip this button).
    • Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    c:\documents and settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Application Data\dwgoey

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Thanks for your help!

    I did everything, it all seemed to work, and I did get a success message for the registry addition. The computer seems to be working fine, I don't think I have the google results redirecting problem any longer.

    I've attached the logs.

    Actually, you are now more infected.

    Please refrain from making any changes to your system (updating Windows, installing applications, removing files, etc.) from now on as it might prolong handling your log and make the job for both of us more difficult.

    You have remnants of AVG still on your system. Please go here and download and run the AVG Removal Tool.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\13.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\15.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\16.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\17.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\18.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\19.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\1A.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\1B.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\5.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\6.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\7.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\8.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\8cd02c1.mst
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\9.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\A.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\B.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\C.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\D.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\E.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\MAR1.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\mar2.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\mar7.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\mar8.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\nsn4D2.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\NSR4D0.TMP
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\STS4.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\stsa.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\~6.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah S\Local Settings\Temp\~nsu.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\35C03C043F1F42C2A989A757EE691F65.TMP
    C:\1d076a6

    Folder::
    C:\1d076a6

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now go to the control panel / user accounts / and disable the HelpAssistant account.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Okay, so I ran the combofix scan and it put most of my files and program files in quarantine, making the computer mostly unusable, so I decided that I was just going to do a system recovery with recovery discs that I made a long time ago, which are clean...

    So, thanks again for your help and I've definitely learned my lesson about procrastinating on updating virus protection.

    This is not necessary! We can fix it if you wish.

    It's fine, I actually already did it. Most things were backed up, I thought it would probably be easier in the long run to just start over....

    Thanks again.

    Thank you for letting us know. There was a bad glitch in ComboFix for a few days and we were successfully working with people to correct it. :major
