Beware of old files

Beware of old files; what the Major got wrong again!

In the Majors’ fanatical need to be first they often get things wrong. Over the past 6 months I estimate 30 percent of all files are older versions. It is truly unfortunate quality control by the Major and many other industries (think GM) appears forsaken.

Today’s example: ‘Returnil Virtual System 2010 Home Free 3.1.7779.5174’ download links points to a file at least 4 months old.

So beware and check all your downloads to verify current file version. Other sites also have this problem BUT not to the same degree as the Major.

Were in no hurry, we are an official mirror for Returnil, the download works and was just released. As for hurrying, I found out it was released elsewhere and the author forgot to mail us, so we were late. I post at least 20 files a day, today I am up to 35 so please so at least 200 a week. Please send me a list of my 30% mistakes this week so I can fix them. I assume you have about 65-70 bad downloads just from this week based on your numbers. I will fix all those mistakes as soon as you let me know which. Hell, at least give me 30. Thanks again for occasionally emailing us like our readers usually do, so we could correct it. A random bitch on the forums really helped ;)

Bala7, don't be in such a hurry to criticize.

Did you see the clickable link to the author's site? It is an easy step to click and check the version BEFORE you download anything. This is true for all the downloads offered.
Kudos to Jim and Tim for offering thousands of downloads that are guaranteed to be malware - free. Some sites can not say that.

Plodr, thanks for the advice. I was born yesterday and am new to the Internet.

“…offering thousands of downloads that are guaranteed to be malware – free”
What Hex editors, Decompilers and Disassembler do you use to rip-apart apps while searching rouge code which ALL programmers insert (some intentionally, others inadvertently) into their code? Allow me to venture a wild guess; virustotal.com or virusscan.jotti.org claim no rootkits ergo it must be so. I don’t release my cracks until I am 100% certain I can beat Norton, Kaspersky, Nod32, etc…
I monitor every single clock cycle on my main machine always on the lookout for anomalies. By the bye, packages from Adobe contain some of the worst code I’ve seen for a major publisher.

“A random bitch on the forums really helped” Major, perhaps I came off somewhat rude. I do sincerely apologies for my crassness. I do use and value your site! Despite my hyperbolic language I do in fact check MD5, SHA where available and often install apps on my test-bench to verify package integrity. Although I don’t have sufficient time to download and test all your files I do find OLD programs routinely. Worse yet, a couple months back you had a K-lite codec pack file that was completely fictitious.
A file that ‘CLSID’ admin and maintainer of codecguide.com could not account for. We had a chuckle over that incident.

Separately, anyone notice Apple’s quarterly results? Owning shares in Apple Inc. is akin to printing $$$.

That could be interpreted to mean you don't get anything else done, as time between clock cycles is fairly brief.
    :p

Yes, that is an excellent observation. I use low level forensic tools to monitor on my behalf. Processors execute only one instruction per clock cycle. Although it is more technical and some processors can perform more than one at a time I know my chipset and any other activity is most likely one of my own rootkits running wild.
The point of all this; you can never be sure. Debating what security solution is best or “never got malware from this website” is analogous to debating GW Bush was a great prez.

A month ago, simply visiting the NY Times (without clicking on any story) infected at least twenty five thousand computers due to a compromised third party add server. Seems to be a far amount of adds on this site too. I mean not that I would know for I aggressively edit my hosts file therefore receive NO advertising in any of the dozen or so browsers which I use.

Fair enough. Yes, we make mistakes, everyone does. However we have readers like yourself who don't allow us to make those mistakes for long. You might not be aware, but this is where I spend all my time. Its the first thing I do when I wake up, the last thing I do when I go to bed and everything inbetween. No days off, no vacations. Please email me if you see a mistake at tim@ this website and you will find I am appreciative and will fix the mistake immediately. Thank you sir :)

A good pop up blocker will put that right. I use AdBlocker Plus and have no problems.

Yeah, like you, I work 24\7, 365 for free.

    Sarcasm off.

Ads here are well balanced compared to any website and another reason to sort of piss me off. People think this is done for free? Please send me the address where you work, or what you do for a living, I would like to have you provide your services to me for free please.

I figured that because your first post was a criticism. :major
Sites I don't like, I don't bother posting at. There are too many good sites to waste time at ones I don't like.
No, I wasn't born yesterday; sadly, this senior citizen wishes she were quite a few years younger but that isn't gonna happen. ;)
