Not no my buying schedule as yet, just get the feeling its going to be just a large iPhone but without the phone, still locked into iTunes and the App Store as the Ipod touch and iPhone are.

    I have an iPhone.

best way I heard it described was like this......."Less than a Powerbook, not much more than an iPhone. But be careful. Apple is selling you a lamp. You will have to get the oil from Apple just as well."

Just looked at some prices for UK and various models will likely be from £310 ~ £550, to be honest a price of a good netbook and good laptop bith have better functionality, so dont really get the iPad now for market, other than the gadget freak who must have all new gadgets.

Guess a few generations down the line these may become normal in our bags, as not going in a pocket! I do know that HP and MSFT did show a similar product at CES earlier this year, that maybe while not as glitzy as the iPad and its apps store, but more aple to run normal PC apps, which is waht I woudl want from a device of this price and size.

was just wondering what the thoughts were with tech people
as a consumer of useful whatchamacallits, this just doesn't grab me by the you know whats.
I'm sure there will be add-ons and other apps in the future to make it worthwhile for somebody like me; but for right now, a huge i phone you can't stick in your pocket is not worth the price ol' Steve is asking.

Already has a wealth of apps for it now as the iPhone and iPod Touch apps work for it, so in a good marketing ploy, Apple have hit the ground running with an app base.

Is it going to be a useful gadget, and I asked a few firends on this last night and answer is its not for them and all of them have iPhones already, so are sold into the Apple hype, most would stick with the iPhone due to portability an the phone part, some may jump to HP Slate but would want to see more specs on it, but where more likely to just get a netbook or small laptop.

The market reacted rather lukewarmly to the intro. I think investors were expecting something a little more groundbreaking.

Just read a few tech articles the same earlier, not the usual new must have gadget that Apple announces in Jan was it! Oversized iPhone but without the phone was one reaction.

Yep, 500 bucks for a big iPhone without the phone, basically. Not for me, and I usually like Geek-toys. $500.00 would buy me a reasonably nice notebook., which does more and is not proprietary bound.

It would be most wise to pay down debts before buying goodies and if you can't buy it outright, you don't buy it at all.

Very true Kodo, but even as i have funds, still not going to get one while the iPhone or my netbook+HTC HD2's tethering to HSDPA works just as good.

More I think about it, this iPad is aimed at those with disaposable incomes who love gadgets and as you mentione dthose who love gadgets in the must have to keep up with the "Simpsons" who dont have the funds and are living off credit.

TBH I don't feel that there's a big enough market for these in the UK. Yes you hear about people posting online saying they're really hoping for an Apple tablet, but it's just a glorified iPod touch surely? Too bulky and expensive for me, can't justify having one.

oldandconfusedagain - My wife has the iPhone and I must admit it is a wonderful device. But we didn't get it until the price went way down last year. I believe it was only $99 US for the 3G as they owed us an upgrade phone.

I think the same will be for the iPad. Once the price drops AND they pump it up with some great software many people will get it and use it. Especially students.
Think about it...if the eTextbooks are much less expensive than paperbooks students will save a lot of money.

Personally I prefer PAPER books, and PAPER newspapers etc. I can flip through a paper book much quicker and we ALL must admit we like the SMELL OF A NEW BOOK.

As far as the news...the Newspapers did it to themselves...they used to get the news out faster...

When I was a boy they had the "Morning paper" and the "Evening paper"

The evening paper would be the news that happened that morning thru the early afternoon. The morning paper would be the news that happened the previous late afternoon or evening.

WHY newspapers STOPPED doing this I have no idea other than probably to CUT COSTS......but they need to go back to the Old Fashion Days of delivering the news...yep go back to the OLD SCHOOL of morning and evening editions, even when delivering to the iPad or other devices. People will like that as IT WORKED for years

    my 2 cents

iPass. :-D Would be cool to have, but I can spend for that price, I can think of other things to get. Remington 700 comes to mind... Am considering an iPhone, those things are just neat.
