I supposedly didn't send personal communications to the person who use to be a moderator, but lost their rights. I didn't know that particular user lost their rights. "HAD" three moderators to keep an eye out when I wasn't there. But apparently one moderator took it upon herself to remove the rights from another moderator. And that person removed himself from the forum. Versus sending me a message asking why he lost his mod rights in the first place. Then I could have looked into the matter first off, getting down to the why & what for. So now I have no more moderators - PERIOD. As a result (and being even more wrong), I lost two more users - possibly three or more talking about leaving. All because of my wrong decissions and p-poor communication skills. Yeah.

I cannot fix a problem if I don't know there is a problem in the first place.

And the reason you thought it was a good idea to bring up internal moderator business in public is...?

Wait. Are you talking about MGs or about your own forum that you have no idea how to manage and thus should not even be running in the first place?

The term for a bunch of people leaving an online forum in a public huff is "flouncing". You'll see it several times if you spend more than ten minutes either visiting or running a message board.

Screw 'em. They'll find somewhere else to roost, they always do.

Sorry, Sgt. Tibbs, but Mimsy hit the nail on the head on this one..;) As for "a bunch of people leaving an online forum in a public huff " they must have had a reason.... Most forums will have one or two leave,. but not all at the same time.. Like I said, must be a reason....Everyone cannot be wrong;)

Jeez, one mod can demote/ban another? Something's wrong in your permissions and in your choice of mods. Finding good mods is tough,

I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. LOL I've been to a number of forums (including this one, actually) where several people have stormed off because of an imagined (or real) slight to one of their friends. It's a lot like grade school, actually, where you can't be friends with Suzy because she no longer likes Sally. LOL

You really have forums summed up well Tibbs, I liken them to managing a kindergarten at times.

The most common post from me when a thread was getting out of hand at the site I used to moderate was "Kids, don't make me stop this car!" LOL

Guess its just a vent/rant on "forumland" they are in the main as I mentioned at times a kindergarten and likely kids are much better behaved, forums are faceless places where your alter ego or avatar can manifest itself and you can be anyone you wish as the personal face to face of real life is missing.

This leads at times to disagreements and things getting blown out of proportion due to lack of communication and that real life contact, so its very very easy to get sucked into an argument not of your creation, best to step back and if its a forum where moderators have a tizzy then get new ones, if a member threatens to leave then so be it, let them go, I notice in many case they leave for a week and come back.

Augie is right finding good mods is tough as many wish to do it for the kudos of the name moderator, but TBH its a thankless and at times PITA of a task, with cleaning up the junk and spam, to ironing out account messups etc, to do it well you have to devote time and have a devils advocate approach in clearing up things.

A good admin/moderation team should be able to chat to each other alot and discuss topics and issues as a group, ultimately the final say is the Admin/Owners as it should be them only that remove a moderator and not other mods IMHO.

What does that make me? dead from the neck up :-D

When you find a good forum like MGs you can all help the moderators by flagging spammers and posts that are just trying to use the forum for advertising. (remember not to reply to these posts)

Our mods are fair and always give a warning before any action is taken so we have the chance to correct any mistakes.

So I've noticed, and ones you can trust.

I've only mention about it on MG cause this forum is based on computing. I didn't like it too much to go to Facebook "and" Last FM to read the guy whom was upset he lost his mod right. But then again he is screwy.

I would have left here about five times now if I'd left when other people have got banned or decided to leave,it was the same in my old street neighbours would have feuds with each other but I have never fallen out with any of them, then both sets of neighbours would kinda fall out with me for saying hello to the other neighbour.

Once one of my friends dogs once jumped on top of my neighbours cars of whom I'd never met we ran and got the dog off,it was a hot summer Saturday night so he'd had a few beers and so had I so he came round shouting at me and my friends,we got into a scuffle hit each other a few times then it was broken up.

Instead of letting it stew I went round to his house first thing in the morning to talk it out, long story short,he's now one of my best friends and my brother was best man at his wedding, its amazing to think if I'd not gone round to his house in the morning, held onto the anger and started a feud we'd have missed out on all these years, around 10.
