I've just recently reinstalled Windows XP and am attempting to install my sound card drivers. My sound card is a C-Media CMI 8738 card.

I first tried installing the drivers from the CD which didn't work, and then I tried downloading the drivers from the website and I'm getting the same problem.

The problem I'm having is that it gets to a certain point and then gets stuck on "Waiting for Audio Driver to be ready". I've provided a screenshot of this so you can see what I mean. I've left this for up to 2 hours and still nothing changes. I'd REALLY appreciate some help with this as it's getting on my nerves now.

    Thanks in advance.

I just tried installing the drivers AGAIN and I got the following message. This is just getting ridiculous, I have no idea what's going on.

    Hey there,

Had a little fun with this company's drivers and installation too, forget if it was the incorrect drivers or incorrect documentation:crybaby was sometime ago...the solution. Despite everything looking fine on paper and documentation...

Download "Everest" :celebrate - its a hardware id tool and its relatively quick, you can download it from this site, run it, believe what it says, and download the drivers for your audio.

The only other thing to do is have a great day listening to your sounds...

Unless your audio cards drivers arent install or its disabled in the bios.

No....not to install but to identify them correctly.

This happened to me looked for 2 days trying to get sill #$^#^ audio drivers only to finally come back to this site (my favorite of course) and stumble across Everest so I thought it was worth a shot nothing else was working...

    I installed it
    Ran it
looked at what the Everest reports said the audio device was
downloaded the audio drivers for what Everest stated the audio device was and my version of windows.
Then scan the download for malware.
    then installed said drivers
    Now the audio actually worked...yay!

forget what the documentation or what it says or online... there is not too surprising amount of incorrect material out there.:zzz Trust everest.:-D:cool

Alternatively you maybe able to see the audio chip on the motherboard usually located somewhere just left of centre at the rear of the mobo you might even see a C-media on it see if you can id the chip number, also check you are installing with admin rights if this is an issue. Have a look in the device manager ensure it has the drivers for the audio and no ? marks for audio. The c-media disc maybe the enhancements and not the actual drivers disc...:tas
