Confused about Win32 Heur infection

Hi All

I have read all the past posts about this virus but nothing has helped.

I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP.

The problem I am facing is that all my exe files on my 3 external drives have become infected.
The AVG 9 does not pick the virus up if I scan my external drives.It will only spread if I execute a program.
I was upset enough to lose all my editing programs now I cannot reinstall for fear of reinfection.
The virus does not infect ISO files so I was a bit lucky there.
I have run all the Spyware removers as explained in the forums.

Is there any way of detecting the virus and healing all my external drive exes?

I would love to hear from others that have had a similar problem.

I hope I have posted in the right thread and I have done all I can to read all the previous posts about this virus.

It is likely that you have thus picked up a Virut, Sality or similiar PE file infector and there are no guaranteed real cures for these infections. Especially the newer forms. The only thing you can do to be assured you are clean is to delete ALL executable type files and that includes many file types like: exe, com, msi, pdf, and more. In reality the best thing to do is back up only non-executable and required personal data and then delete partitions on ALL of your drives, then repartition, format, and reinstall your OS!

If you reinstall or run even one backed up executable that is infected, you will have to start all over again since you will reinfect everything again.
