Never downloaded music before, a friend asked me if i could get a particular song "when you were sweet sixteen" its a long story about how he met his wife. So i found this thing called Limewire and got it for him. Then I began to wonder if the site was safe. decided not to chance things going wrong so I uninstalled it. am I being paranoid??:confused

We don't suggest the use of software like Limewire because 99% of the files are copyright protected and therefore illegal to download in most countries. Plus many contain malware.

Be sure you know just what you are doing before hand, and the potential dangers involved.

    The Dangers Of File Sharing
File-sharing dangers involve more than legal troubles

The best course is to use a licensed service like Amazon or iTunes. 99 cents for most songs is a pretty good deal.

Many use that program. I used that back in highschool when I was downloading a few songs. But I deleted it since they started with that stuff about it being illegal. Also you can download bad things. There were a few tricks and you could keep it so your stuff wasn't shared but I wouldn't risk it. Plus if they see how easy it is they may just keep downloading and get busted.

I've fixed many peoples PC's who thought Limewire was fine and didn't care about legalities, but when I showed them the 10 or 100 or in some case over 1000 viruses/malware/spyware they had picked up from it (including what installed with the software itself) they soon stopped lol
Also as Silas mentioned, you don't always get what you think you got and sometimes it can be very very bad indeed.

Not at all, last time I used it for a friend who wanted some songs for her memorial, I knew better but did it anyway and made a mess of my computer.

There are places that you can download a single song using a credit/ATM card.

Hey Tony, didn't you here about that young girl from Wales, only downloaded half a dozen songs or so from Limewire, while others had downloaded absolutely thousands, and she was the unlucky one the FBI turned up on her doorstep, it's a chance you've got to take mate, your from the UK yourself, if it was me, no thanks !

I don't download music, myself, but sure have heard a LOT of horror stories about that limewire. I think you would be wise, tony, to listen, and just pick up a CD of what songs you want.. Or, try Oma's link.. But of all things, listen to Rusty. You don't want to be the next "Lucky one" !rolleyes

Check your local music store, and see if you can find it. Surely it is out there somewhere.. ;)

The thing that got me scared back when I was downloading music when I liked a song was when I d read sites and seeing them go to jail or even going to court. I see one thing where a old woman in 70's-80's year old Gma got arrested and charged with downloading music, and fined huge amounts. The thing that really scared me(I dont know what they really do/FBI and etc) but what I was seeing was so much money per song.. hundred of thousands per song and jail time. And since I know if the FBI really wanted to get into our computers they could/would so I got to paranoid and deleted them and uninstalled. Just sucks tho I think that stuff should be Legal. It does hurt the movie and music industry but come on how much have they made and will continue to make. Its not like they go from million/billions to thousands.. And also if you want to have alot of music and movies.. you'd have enough money to buy a new house with the amount you'd spend on the dvds and cds! I know the dvds I bought so far.. could have bought be brand new 2010 car. Thank god I didn't go that way with buying music cds.

Digital.... Everything I said is true, please don't lead people to believe downloading is safe, if you do know anything about it then you will know thats it's never "Safe" and the chances of being caught although slim are still there and the fines are heavy.

Having said that, I know a few people in the UK and a couple in Canada who have had letters from the MPAA and nothing transpired simply because the MPAA have no power outside the USA.

Downloading with P2P progs is dodgy at the best of times but if you must do it, keep a check on YOUR countries laws.

And these would be the best two reasons not to use Limewire. Thanks for the reality check! ;)

darlene1029- I thought Kazza was just like lmewire? The way you typed it it kinda sounded like it was legal to use Kazza and download music? I thought all music was illegal to download.

Sadly, it is far more complicated than that... :(

Well I thought all music was illegal to download if you didn't pay for it. Like Limewire, Kazza, back in the day I used Napster or whatever it was called. Anyway when I was young I was told by a computer kid that I could use this program to block all high up IP's from getting into my computer. So downloading could be safer for when I did do it. Dont know if this is against the rules but I think it was called Peer Guardian or maybe I am wrong, it was suppose to block goverment IP and all those kind of IPs. And it was a big list of IPs rolleyes

lol I ain't quoting to say something bad at you. I just thought this was funny. because it reminds me of bongs and that stuff at smoke shops here. Sells all sorts of drug things saying its used for "tobacco" use only. I am sure there really buying for tabacco use :-D But to tell ya something I did back in the day was I had a friend(smoked weed) he had a cousin that worked in one. The owner of the smoke shop sold all kinds of awesome looking things that people wouldnt notice.. Like a normal yellow highlighter marker(it worked) and you pull top off and bam a bong. Anyways the owner did drugs to.. and anyways the pay he got was what he grabbed from register when ever he wanted. Mainly the store was really trading items for drugs. I d sit in there sometimes and little kid comes in with snow body suit in age 8 Id say. Guy I know called him Mario and laughed(mario bros game) anyways he said he got something and had weed on him and we told lil kid go on home. But many people came in daily tring to sell/trade. Fun part was watching people steal items and catching them.. Its like dude you got a bong in your pants come here.

lol Yeah, I remember "Video Senders" They were desinged to enhance picture and send signals wirelessly to other TV's in your house. What they actually did was enhance the picture so as to clarify the through the copyright coding, it was legal to buy them, legal to sell them........ but illegal to use them lol
