2nd DVD drive does not show

Hi , great forum
anyway , I am running XP Pro SP2
and have the drives on a IDE cable , I have tried the jumpers on master and the other on slave and still no go .Have set it to CS on both but then no DVD drive shows up when I go to my computer .:-o

 

What happens if you only plug in the second DVD drive?

 

I have it plugged on the plug closest ot the mother board and it shows up .

@daddyboy: Do you have 2 different IDE slots (the long slots that the ribbon connects to) on your motherboard?

 

yes I have two long ide sockets

 

Can you plug one drive into each?

This may necessitate buying a second IDE cable, it should only cost £1 or so.

Hey thanks guys for your support .
I was using an IDE cable that had all black plugs on the end of them .
So as soon as I put an old one on that has a blue, grey and black on , IT went !DOH

The colour of the plugs should make no difference. In this case it was probably a bad connection/broken wire on the faulty cable.
