What is with Teenagers, more specifically teenage boys.

My boy is 17 in a week, we live in Canada, it was -8C when he left for school this morning.
Where is his coat?......Sitting on the chair next to me.
The boy is 5'11" and 125lbs soaking wet, always complaining that "I don't feel good, I think I'm getting a cold"
Well no shit sherlock, you been wandering around all winter in a tshirt and hoddy (open) and no coat. It has only got above 0C once in 8 weeks.

I used to do this kind of thing too but I lived in the UK, it only got down to -2C a couple of times a year.

Funny thing is, it's all vanity, you don't look cool with a coat..........but apparently you look cool standing there in the snow with the wind howling and shivering so much you look like you're having some form of seizure. Yes very cool, well guess what, this is Canada, you look more of a moron walking round in summer/spring clothes in the middle of winter than dressing apropriately.

    Damn kids :mad

Hahahaha!:-D Teenagers.rolleyes There's nothing new there but the poor lad needs some extra insulation as he'll get hypothermic real quick with his body weight!:eek Wait 'til it gets to -20C and heavy wind, it ain't fun. Oh, colds come from a virus and not from 'the cold'.;)

Ya @ looking cool. He must really look 'cool' if he misses the bus and starts shivering or has post nasal drip. That's really cool!:-D

Way back in 7th grade I started wearing hoodies at max for a coat. I never wore a coat. Even each winter and to this day I wear normal shirt.. and if its really cold I put on a hoodie. And I still get the marks when I go to my moms house about wearing a coat or Ill get sick. And to this day I refused to get flu shots and you know what.. many years later no sickness and no coat. But I do agree if I had a kid and Id want them to wear a coat cause Id hate to have a bill for doctors for a flu.

This happens around here on a daily basis. Whether is 20 of them or 2 of them, they all think its cool to stand around outside of a McD's with nothing but sweatshirts (shivering to death) in 15 degree weather. I mean because you can't stand around McD's in COAT! What will your friends think? :-D

I'm an old codger of 58 and they can think what they want about me. When it gets below 50F, my coat comes out of the closet.(Thin blood with low BP).

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

lol Had to expect that :p

Although I`m not a farm boy, I`m from a fishing town, I can`t read and I can`t write but I can haul pots lol
And couldn`t I tell ya some yarns from the sea lol

The whole thing about perents telling kids `You`ll thank me one day`It`s so true, but not until you have kids yourself and your parents sit back and laugh and point at you while maniacally giggling the words ``Told Ya`` :-D

You're a parent, and you haven't realized yet that all teenagers are inherently stupid? :innocent

    :p

  18. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Oh yeah of course I have lol, even down to the Beavis and Butthead laugh :-D

I also remember being that age, but I'm sure I was different :p

No Mimsy, teenagers are ALWAYS right, aren't they :confused well i was anyway when i was a teenager ! :-D:p

@Ned, There's a little fishy on a little dishy when the boat comes in ! LOLLOL

  20. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

lol Thats more like it :-D

Well the snows comming down and the windds howling, he thought he was gonna get a snow day lol, bloody well put his coat on this morning lmao

  21. rustyjack

    rustyjack MajorGeek

:-D Ned your gunner get it in the ear whan he gets a bit older, see thats what you've got to watch out for, if he grows bigger than you he'll whoop your a$$, :-D only joking mate, he sounds like a good kid and he'll have big respect for you anyway ! ;)

  22. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

lol Grow bigger than me? Doubtful :-D

    He's 17 and 5'11" (there's that 11 again lol) and 125lbs ish.
Me, I'm 6'3"1/4 and 230lbs. He's got a little way to go lol

But yeah he's a good kid for the most part, a few minor incidents with ciggerettes and weed but other than that never caused any real issues.
He's actually my stepson and by his own admittance I'm the only "Real" father he's ever had.... soppy I know but it choked me up, then adds me on facebook as his father.... if I didn't know better I'd say he was wanting something lol

  23. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Well he comes in from school with coat on but both coat and hoody open leaving just a tshirt covering his chest/belly.
Thats an improvement until he exclaims a half hour later...... "I just don't seem to be able to get warm, I don't know why"

    Nedlamar *facepalms*

  24. rustyjack

    rustyjack MajorGeek

Hey Ned he's only 17 yr old and theres a lot more growing to be done yet ! :p
You said "if I didn't know better I'd say he was wanting something lol" tell him you'll give him some money, but his hands will be to cold to hold onto it, so there's no use :-D watch him start putting his coat AND gloves on then ! :-D

  25. Nedlamar

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

lol Thats a possibility. Thing is with him is he makes me feel so guilty (edit: thats not true, I just feel guilty lol) for not giving him money and buying him stuff, I mean I can't afford to especially at the moment but I really want to. But then I think to myself, he's 17, he needs to be finding a job and learning that life isn't handed to you on a plate. Unfortunately something his father has yet to learn and seems to have passed on.
Hell, by the time I was 17 I had been in full time employment for nearly 2 years and had been left home over a year lol
And yes, I did finish and passed everything in school (for those not British, our school high school ends at 16, I just started early lol)

My family was pretty poor growing up. And specially when it only got to 400 dollars max a month for a kid and parent plus two story house big basement and all its bills that go with it plus 2 older vechicals. So my mother told me the truth which I already knew we didnt have the money. I had nice clothes my mother always put me ahead of things. Finally I realize Sophomore year in HS when you get 5 bucks a week thats 5 bucks a week. lol But me being school kid didn't want none cool clothes and stuff. So once the family starts going shopping at the discount stores for clothing.. then the kid realizes how much his clothes are better and he/she should be happy even more about his clothing being better then that discount store. I think highschool is a good place to go cept once you get out of it you finally realize that being popular wasnt really anything in life.

Not my fault the old fogey's didn't know it.

That statement belongs in the same section as the story of the Great Green eyed , 3 eared, slobbering beast of Clapham Common.

    Fiction :p

I kind of went cross eyed reading that until the last line. Never a true word said.
I learnt very early that material things are very low down on the list of priorities in the grand scheme of things.

  30. rustyjack

    rustyjack MajorGeek

Material things in life can be replaced, life itself can't, so thats why they're so low down in the pecking order ! ;)
