Hi all ... I have an intel 82845GRG mobo with the intel extreme graphics controller as the on board video ... my video card went down and I am force to use the intel video. I tried to play an old game and it's telling me that it can't find a compatible direct 3d device required.:-o Does this mean the intel video doesn't support 3d or do I have to get a direct 3d driver? :confused
The on board video has the latest driver installed.

    Thanks in advance ... :wave

    Hi

Take it this is a D84GRG mobo as that is more the chip, becides that what Windows version and Servuce Pack do you have? what versuon if Directx? (can find this by clicking Start - Run and typing dxdiag and on msin tab it will tell you, if you dont have Directx 9c then updste, but the direct 3d driver fike us osrt if directx

This could mean that your gfx hardware is not powerful enought to play the game i'm afraid. What game is it?

Also have you fully uninstalled the old dead gfx cards driver?

Hi:wave ... thanks for posting ... I am running XP Pro and Windows 7 ... dual boot ... I have direct X 11 now ... I was trying to play Lord of the Rings Return of the King ... it's a old game ... so I thought for sure the on board video would be able to handle it ... but apparently not ...

I didn't uninstall the old card because the store I got the card from is willing to exchange it for another one ... that's the situation .... I plan to pick up the card sometime over the weekend ...

Thanks again for posting ... :)

    Hi

Where you by any chance trying to play the game in Win7 and got that message? if so just try this as old games and even some new ones need the older d3d.dll fikes from Directx 9c installing in Win7, so just install the DX9 Redist http://majorgeeks.com/DirectX_End-User_Redistributable_d2924.html

I see on old card, yes wait and install new card, if you get any errors still even with the new card as at times windows doesnt live multiple drivers instslked then post back.

:wave you are right ... I got back with the replacement card ... installed it ... and I'm getting these errors ...

"igfx mod stop working" ... then "hkcmd mod stopped working" "Dr. Watson error ... finally windows explorer error it must close. Then the computer locks up with the hours glass.

So I boot over to windows 7 ... same thing ... same errors ... "igfx" "hkcmd" so it a driver issue? How do I correct it?:cry

    Hi

Yes, Windows is seeing two drivers, so look in add/remove for the Intel Graphics Driver, or you can uninstall from Device Manager also, then reboot, but on reboot enter the bios and make sure that onboard graphics is disabled (it should really do this automatically, but check).

Also uninstall your Nvidia driver if also still listed in Add/remove, then re-install the Nvidia one.

:wave again ... I did as you said ... I even when into the program files and deleted the nvidia folder ... I went into the device manager and uninstalled the driver. I went into add and remove and took out the intel extreme graphics and the nvidia ... then I let window xp install the driver again. Still getting the errors. I haven't tried window 7 yet, but I did delete the drivers in the device manager and the program files ...

    It's got me scratching my head ... I don't get it.:confused:cry

I forgot to mention there is nothing in the bios to disable the video ... also I try windows 7 still getting the same errors as in xp .... could this card be bad as well?:wave

:wavewell .... I got this program to clean the drivers ... I followed the instructions in the readme file and after using the cleaner ... this is in win7 ... no way to go into safe mode with xp ... I had it reboot to go into xp and try and do the same thing, then install the drivers for xp manually ... then win 7 ... once I rebooted monitor tells me "no signal input .. check cable" ... and that's all she wrote ... I'm dead in the water now ...:cry:confused

I was trying to clean out all the drivers then manually install the drivers for each os and roll back my direct x to 9 so my old fx 5200 would work well with it, but I never got that far ... :-o

I got XP going again! I use the software to clean out the drivers ... I unplugged from the net so XP couldn't reinstall ... then I booted into safe mode ... ran the program ... emptied the recycle bin then rebooted and manually installed the nivida driver for XP ... now I have to find a program that is compatible with windows 7 so I can clean the drivers from it ... :-D;)

    HI

    Great on WinXP

What I would do is to download and install Driver Sweeper (BUT do not run it yet) download the lastest driver version for your graphic card BUT dont install yet, guessed that your using an nVidia card from the above posts, but if Ati, then just subsitute nVidia for Ati

Use Add/Remove and unsinstall your Nvidia Graphics Driver, then reboot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and then run Driver Sweeper to remove any Nvidia Graphics and Physx driver.

Then install the Nvidia driver you downloaded earlier and once installed if not prompted to reboot, reboot into normal mode.

Re: Problem Solved! Thanks for the help!

:waveOkay ... I got both OS running again ... I used the program I provided a link to in an earlier post. I used that on in XP .... it is not compatible in windows 7 ... I uninstalled the drivers and software in the device manager and the add and remove program ... if there was any software .. rebooted ... went into safemode ... in XP had the program clean all the drivers, was disconnected from the internet when I rebooted into XP and I manually installed the nvidia driver for xp ... problem solved there ...:-D

Then I went into safe mode for windows 7 and had this program which is compatible with windows 7 clean the drivers if any ... after that I rebooted ... windows 7 installed a generic driver, but I didn't like it ... I couldn't set my monitor to it's native resolution. So I got the nvidia driver for the FX 5200 for windows vista and installed it ... now I can set the resolution and windows 7 is running fine.:cool

    Problem solvedLOL
