    MajorGeeks,

    I am so sorry to be back so soon. I thought I was being careful, but it looks like I need to be more selective about which Google links I click on.

    And the frustrating part is I was not looking for porn, gambling, illegal downloads, etc. It was for repaying student loans! G--damit!

    Clicked on the 2nd Google link (1st one was private) and BAM! got the fake pop-up and warnings. Terminated it and ran the R&R.

    Think the scans cleared it out. Haven't done anything long enough the see if there's any other odd behaviors.

    Thanks in advance.

    TimW,

    Thanks for the reply.

    Made the script and ComboFix updated itself, which I allowed. It ran through the ~50 stages and then re-started Windows. It seemed to take a real long time to find the 3M and write the log, but it eventually happened.

    Ran \GetLogs.bat.

    Both logs are attached.

    Computer appears to be ok. Though, after that sickening realization of what happened, I've kept my work on this computer minimal. Haven't done banking, financial, or similar work, until given the all clear.

    On a side note, mainly because you all make it look sooooo easy, I've been looking at logs and trying (failing) to see what you see. I noted in the initial CF log that the file at the path c:\windows\system32\stacsv.exe was quarantined. Trying to figure out what this was (or what it did), a Google search showed that it's a driver for SigmaTel Audio, which I know I have. Was that file truly a virus or an FP?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Just saw your post. Will remain logged on.

    BTW, if you don't mind me asking, why the new signature?

    I had to take another look at your logs. Sorry for any confusion. You can remove these files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\am162\Application Data\226df7
    C:\Documents and Settings\am162\Application Data\mcs.rma

    Otherwise your logs are clean.

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to tahe cleaning procedures ian step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    TimW,

    Sorry, ran your earlier script as soon as I saw it.

    Will hold off on the final instructions 'till I get the A-OK.

    I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Let's correct a few things.

    Go to
    Code:
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\"
    legacy~1.dat  Feb 18 2010        1322  "Legacy_CPUZ132.reg.dat"
    servic~1.dat  Feb 18 2010        2782  "Service_cpuz132.reg.dat"
    servic~2.dat  Feb 18 2010        2560  "Service_SSPORT.reg.dat
    and remove the .dat extension. then double click each file to have them remerge with the registry.

    Then:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    DeQuarantine::
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\WINDOWS\system32\stacsv.exe.vir
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\Documents and Settings\am162\Application Data\226DF7.vir
    C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\C\Documents and Settings\am162\Application Data\mcs.rma.vir

    Quit::

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now tell me how things are running.

    No sweat. Heck, you've gotten this squared away in almost <24 hours. I remain floored...

    I was able to restore the 2nd and 3rd registry entries only. For the first one, I got an error message from Registry Editor stating:

    "Cannot import C:\Qoobox\Quarantine\Registry_backups\Legacy_CPUZ132.reg: Error accessing the registry"

    Ran the DeQuarantine script and have attached the log. The only "odd" thing was that my SAS, McAfee, and Quickset icons in the tray disappeared, and almost half of the processes in Task Manager were gone. So, I restarted (still too chickensh-- to get back on-line without AS/AV) and they've returned.

    Computer appears to be running fine. No glitches. Have only checked e-mail and the like. Still holding off on financial stuff.

    Thanks again for getting back to me so rapidly!

    Not seeing any malware in your logs. But a caveat, whenever you find malware on your system, it is always a good idea to use a different computer and change all your online passwords.

    You can go ahead and do the final cleanup procedures I gave you a few posts back now.
