    My opinion: Who cares?

The guy's an athlete. He cheated on his wife. It's not news.

Get off the story and cover something real...like, er...Lady Gaga. Is she really a he?:-D

You said it, Tony! The ONLY thing he is sorry for, is that he got caught. That is about it. I don't do golf anyway :-D

IMO I like Tiger and always will. He was and still is a great golfer. TO me hes the best. They even said it themself. Events and shows dropped a lot of percentage when Tiger was gone. They also said he was the number 1 guy for selling the most to. Anyways seeing things like this is hard to be dating a woman who is religious and hates everything and thinks every little thing is bad. But in reality who cares about him cheating. IMO yes hes wrong.. shouldn't cheat. Get a divorce or something. GF eyes divorce isnt what true christains are. I just shut up each time I tell her anything .. most the time I dont tell her anything new... lol

I really don't get why he needs to apologize to a bunch of people who are not his wife. He wronged her. Not his fans, or any of a million of supposedly offended people around the globe. Don't get me wrong, he did betray his wife in a very bad way, and given she's Swedish I will not be surprised if retribution and divorce will be swift, brutal, and as painful as she can make it. We hzve a temper, and a lot of pride. It's the viking heritage.

But why does Tiger Woods need to apologize to anyone else? Yes, I understand he is a hero to a lot of young people, and that his sponsors bought a certain image as well as his golf prowess when they signed the contract, but really... billionaire athletes sleep around with beautiful women all the time, it's almost a part of the job description by now. What did he do to anyone other than his wife, other than failing to live up to expectations that were so unrealistic and naive that if you're not Mrs. Woods and you feel Tiger should apologize to you, then you're a very delusional person?

Tiger's biggest crime towards people he's not married to is honestly that he was careless and stupid enough to get caught. He should apologize for that, before anything else.

I heard it on the radio this morning and there's articles all over the internet.... I don't know what he said and don't care.
It's nobody elses business what goes on off the Golf Course.
The media hypes this type of thing up way too much, he's a Golfer......not a God.

His wife is going to end up with more money than she will know what to do with and he will cry sympathy and the people will give it to him.....because he plays Golf.

Personally no sympathy for him at all, I don't know him, he has no bearing on my life and honestly the more I hear about him the less I respect him as a sportsman.
Be great at something, stop trying to make yourself out to be a God, you're a Golfer, you wack a ball with a stick, granted he does it very well.....but thats all it is.
Then again I think the media and public should stay the hell out of peoples lives.

Something I've joked about for well over a year now, since Jenifer Aniston and Brad Pitt split up, I'm 99% sure she has been on the front cover of at least 1 magazine every single week.
    Leave the poor woman alone!

It can be said that you're in the limelight so you have to expect it, but the funny thing is we repay these people who entertain us by hounding them into depression or worse.
We the public crave inside knowledge and scandle on people .......who provide US with entertainment. Surely a better way to show apreciation would be to leave them alone.
The human race is awesome isn't it lol

That is a great point, that I don't think I've ever seen brought up before. I agree with it though... fully and completely.

As an enthusiastic can of the LA Lakers, I've been seriously irritated this season that in every single nationally televised Laker game the announcers have been talking about Lamar Odom and his Kardashian wife, as if it's a really interesting thing that everyone really cares about. I'm just annoyed. I love Lamar and that the Lakers were able to re-sign him, but his marriage is between him and his wife, and not something the TV announcers should be talking about when he's in the middle of dunking over Kevin Garnett. I don't need to know about his personal life. He got married less than a year ago, let the man have his privacy!

We give these so called celebrities too much press, who gives a **** if he sleeps around, just goes to show us that these folk some put on pedestals are human and frail like the rest of us, but they earn much much more due to use giving them the time of day.

He is only like many others who play a squeeky clean image then fall from grace, in then needing to hammer the TV shows appologising, he is not making us feel good, but trying to save his paypacket.

Personally, I wonder what was so wrong in the relationship that he felt the need to go outside it for satisfaction. Not that it's any of my business, but obviously something wasn't quite right.

The real issue to me though, is that they are making pop heroes out of the women who came forward and admitted to sleeping with him. Granted, their careers are over now. Discretion is the code word of their profession and now that they tossed that out he window, bet their client lists shrinks faster than Tiger's sponsor list.

    ~C

PS: So he screwed around... WHO CARES?!?!? So have most of the presidents, and other than with Bill Clinton, no one gave a hoot.

I can't believe it's all completely down to the male 'celebrity' though. OK, the majority are pretty average to good looking, but if some of the women who have gone with these men saw an average penniless, untalented Joe (instead of the mega rich, super famous individuals that Tiger Woods, John Terry, Ashley Cole etc. turned out to be) walking down the street, they wouldn't give these gadgies a second look. Phil Collins is a great case in point.
Not that this excuses the behaviour of these two (or more) timing lotharios. It doesn't and it shouldn't. They need to give themselves a shake and realise some women with lesser morals will run straight to a newspaper and say, "Give me a load of cash and I'll tell you who's been a naughty boy this week."
Take the pain, boys, it serves you right when you get catched.

Halo - you hit the nail as usual:) Had he been a rambunctious sports person - it would not have got the hype. I saw the last five minutes of his apology.
Yakking about Buddhist teachings blah blah - and not giving into temptation:-D

All aside, the guy plays amazing. Technically perfect, sound mind on the course, and talented to pull off the impossible shot in a clutch situation. He could be ten shots behind the leader on a Sunday morning, and still win! He scares the rest of the field. I like that.

The guy is great at golf period. Forget the private life.
    Cheers..

    Hi Sikvik.

Great post and I agree, he is good at golf, a lousy husband from what we read, but who cares, and his apology in public was to save his *** and $$$$$ no more no less, buddhist LMFAO, why is it anyone who Fs up or commits a crime turns to religion (not aiming this thread into religon and all that mumbo jumbo so will delete any twists to what I posted)!

I'm in agreement with the general mood here. Tremendous athlete, SOB as a husband/father.
I think the apology to "his fans" and the public was pompous. The ONLY ones he should apologize to is his family, but his arrogance tells him the public might give a rat's *** as to who he's sleeping with.
Then he brings religion into it, what a f****** hypocrite, it's amazing how many of these celebs suddenly find God, or in this case Bhudda I guess, after they screw up and get caught.
I think the entire show was 100% motivated by and staged for $$$$.
    Just my 2 cents.

While I could honestly care less about the actions of atheletes/celebrities, I do not believe he 'acts like god' or that 'his apology to "his fans" and the public was pompous'.

First off...what is godlike about wanting your privacy and not wanting to be harassed by our so called mainstream media who are more and more behaving as paparazzi? Secondly, do you truly believe he wants to go in front of this same media and 'apologize' to the world for something he did to his wife?? He is made to by the simple fact that he would not have been able to go in public ever again if he hadn't. I'm sure he doesn't believe he owes any of the public an apology...nor does he, imo.

He may be pompous, but in the scheme of things, who isn't when you are basically the best at what you do? And furthermore, who cares? If you like golf, you like to watch him...or hate him. One or the other never had anything to do with what women he was with.

People (and the media, specifically) need to get over themselves. Their definition of 'the right to know' has far surpassed what is logical. Why does the public have a 'right to know' what goes on in Tiger Woods' private life?

    Hi Laura

The public dont have a right to know whats going on in a persons life, but sadly they do when celebrities coax the media for all they are worth when it suits them but when an incident like this crops up they want anonymity and then go on a chat show to say sorry! thats again coaxing the press he could have gone to ground but he didnt so deserves all the negative and well as positve press the will get on this.

Cannot have the limelight one minute then say no the next! no work like that sadly.

As said, the media just publicizes what sells. If I was caught being unfaithful, (as wrong as that is on a personal level), no one would care.
With a familiar household name, many media tend to regard as their lives as public property. This is a trap of being a public person. Personal lives of public people don't interest me in the slightest, but unfortunately, a lot of people like to have some kind of personal gossip, and to pass judgment on the target person. Pretty sad state of affairs in a way.
Tiger - great Golfer - not so great husband. The two shouldn't be mixed publicly, i.m.o., but they always do.

I agree with that in part. However, he lives to play golf...period. Telling him to stay away and go to ground is like telling a techie to stay off of their computer. Just ain't gonna happen. :-D

Yes he does live to play golf (and he is good at it), so what the hell is he doing on primetime TV crying his heart out?

Publicity and trying to deflect his indiscretions and validate them with the public through saying he's all religious! yeah right.... par (OMG golfing metaphor) for the course in celeb circles. He want the public to say "hey yeah its ok you F***ed around and we forgive you" TBH I dont care, he made is bed or bunker and has to lie in it, I feel sorry for his wife and not him.

Like you said, trying to save his image... you'd think he would have realized just from looking at the mistakes of others though, that it's not going to work. What would have worked, and what he should have been doing, was to refuse to talk about it aside from "it's between me and my (ex-)wife, and out of respect for her I will not turn this to a media circus", and then focused on golf. Golf, golf, golf. Once he'd won a couple more tournaments, no one in the media would have bothered with the scandal anymore.

Instead he poured rocket fuel on the flames... further proof that golf is the only thing he's good at? rolleyes

He's doing it to get it done with. He should have done it when it all first happened. That was his big mistake right there. All he did was create even more of a media frenzy.

Does anyone here really think the media would let him get away with no press conference?

He's not the first. Won't be the last. This time next year it'll be someone else being dragged over the coals by the media.
Odds for the next fella caught playing away are:
    1-10 Rustyjack
    4-7 David Beckham
    Evens Elton John
    2-1 Jay Leno
    5-1 Roger Federer
    10-1 Alan Rickman
    25-1 Will Smith
