Ugrading to Windows 7

Hi Everyone,

I have a laptop that has Windows XP professional loaded on it, there is a password screen for a old network login but I've forgotten the password...

If I load Windows 7 will it completely overwrite everything so the login and password are not required upon bootup...

No it will not because formatting the hard drive will remove windows xp and all of its files are deleted along with the password.

So I think you answered my question....loading windows 7 will format the drive and when it boots up it will not require any logins or passwords...right..?

With Windows 7, you can upgrade from Vista only. XP requires a clean install, so yes, the drive will have to be reformated and anything to do with XP will be gone.

I bought the full home edition, had issues getting it to boot until I redirected the BIOS boot...thats not mentioned in the instructions...so much for easy install....usual for Microsoft.....

Now having issues with hardware that do not have 7 updates.....

...and with W7, you will have to enter a password of your choosing as it's no longer like XPs login scheme, basically none.

 

If the hardware has Vista drivers these can be used instead.
