ok folks, I've been gone for a while but that is unimportant. What is important is that my son was a casualty in a two vehicle accident on 2-20-10. I'm working on my blog on an entry telling what happened so please be patient while I finish it up. Short story is that my son lost control of his vehicle, over-corrected and was t-boned by an oncoming Dodge Ram truck. We had some scary moments over last weekend but luckily he only received a broken clavicle (right side), and broken finger and thumb on the left hand. He also had the tendon on the left thumb detached from it's anchor point. God was definitely with him during his accident as if you look at the pictures it is difficult to imagine him living through the carnage. I will inform you when I get my blog updated.

Wow, I don't know you Wraith but I feel very glad your son is going to be ok.
My son is now learning to drive and I must admit I'm not comfortable with it.

I wish you and your family all the very best during this time and for the future.

I'd say your son is lucky to have survived this. I've know too many people, esp. young people, who didn't make to adulthood because of this.

If there is any bright side to this, people I've known who have been involved in this bad of an accident, and survived, have become extremely cautious drivers, as we all should be.

Yes, I think the Lord was looking out for him. All the best to you and your kin.

Oh wow. I have to admit when I saw the phrase "my son was a casualty" I expected the worst, especially with those pictures. I can't imagine how he survived that...! I'm very glad to hear he did survive, and that his injuries are as mild (comparatively speaking at least) as they are.

Take you time with the family... few things make us realize how much we appreciate them like a serious scare like this.

Welcome back, by the way. Good to see you again. :)

Yeah I thought the same thing when I read "casualty" I was like oh no! But omg those are some very horrible pictures. And thank god your son is alive. And Id have to say someone or something gave him another chance. Hopefully he pulls through quick and comes out on the other end a okay.

Hey Wraith, your son was definitley being looked over, as i've seen people in much lesser accidents and have had to walk into the light as they say, i'm far from religious, but when i see this sort of thing, it makes me think that there must be something out there to look over us, or is it just shear luck !
God bless and i hope he his up and sorted fully in no time at all ! ;)

Crap Wraith, that is some wreck. I have to assume there was no passenger. Your son is a very lucky guy. Looks like they cut the top off to get him out.
    Is that a Taurus?

I too, thought the worst when I read 'casualty. Glad he came out of it with repairable injures. Yes, the Lord was definitely protecting him, then.

Other than that, Good to see you post again, Jack. Blessings to all, my friend.:)

Only kind of cars I see like that are what ones are sitting on some of the highways in the country more like areas around me. They are usually from DUI mostly. And they leave the car out front for many years and still there on most of them saying this what happens when drinking and driving. RIP son.

Sheeeyit, Wraith, that's one RTA your son doesn't want to be involved in again. It is hard to look at those pics and realise no one was more seriously injured. Thank God he walked away with relatively minor injuries.
I've been in a couple of accidents when the road's been skitey (icy to non Scottish seakers) in winter. No other vehicles involved though. Luckily I ended up in ditches both times but even that was nerve shredding!
You really have got one lucky boy there, Wraith. That is an horrendous accident.
Best wishes to your son for a very speedy recovery.
Was the driver of the truck okay?

@Mimsy and Silas - did not mean to scare either of you with that phrasing, sorry about that. And Silas, I can happily say no drugs or alcohol were involved.

@Rustyjack - funny how you say you are not religious yet wish me God bless. Not an issue, just found it somehow freudian..... Thank you for the well-wishes though...

@sibeer - no, no passenger. Yes they cut the top off and yes it was a Taurus, now it is a Junk Taurus!

@Phantom - Barry thank you for your kind words my friend. Hearing from you is always good even when the events that brings us together are bad.

@darlene - Someone was definitely with him!

To the rest I have not mentioned and to the others who visit this thread, I thank you all for your support. If there is one thing that I have found out in my many year association with Major Geeks it is that we are a COMMUNITY and as such we continue to support each other in times of need. I know that I can always come here with my troubles and my problems and find some comfort and advice from those whom I consider to be just as good of friends as those I see in person. I thank you each and all. If you wish to find out more about the crash and my thoughts on it you are welcome to go to my blog and read up on it.

Yeah don't think for a second I was meaning your child was drinking. I was just stating those horrible pictures just resemble what I see driving down some roads around here. Iam just stating the crash and car itself with injuries were just as bad as a DUI. Another thing is wheres the blog?

no silas, I wasn't thinking that at all. Just thankful that those were not issues we needed to be worried about.

Ditto on the word 'casualty'! Glad he is alive after seeing that car. What a horrible thing to have to go through as a parent. Best wishes for his recovery, Wraith.

I'm sorry to hear of this tragic part of your life but I'm glad to here that it wasn't fatal. How is the boy doing mentally/emotionally? My prayers to him and the rest of your family.
Several years back my daughter and her daughter were going to the grand daughters school and my daughter looked over at her daughter to make sure she was still strapped in and for just that second my daughter went off the road just a tad and panicked and as your son, over corrected my 87 Blazer. She did a 360 and landed on the roof, skidded 30 ft on the hood (15 asphalt 15 dirt) and came to a stop 2 ft from a power pole. Neither of us cried until we got a second look at the Blazer it the junk yard.I don't know who shook more her or me. It is a heart wrenching thing to see and or here that your child has gone through such a night mare but it is heart warming to know that they are still with you.God speed.

Wraith... glad to hear your son's OK... after 20 years in the business, I've seen a lot of wrecks and just want to point out a couple things for those of you who don't have that experience.

1- I agree that someone was looking out for him

2- The car did exactly what it was designed to do... protect him from the impact. Granted, if there was a passenger, it would not have been such a good ending for them judging from the photos.

Ford does make some good cars to get into accidents with, they rival Volvo when it comes to accident safety.

Hope he takes the good out of this and manages to learn how to deal with the bad. Make sure he has your support (not that I doubt he does at all) in following up with a counselor of some sort too. It's not just the physical injuries, but the psychological ones that can do the most harm in the long run. Even if he feels everything is OK, might want to have him talk to someone a couple of times just to be sure. never hurts.

I second that. I was in a car accident about 10 months ago where my car was deemed "totaled" by the insurance company. They scrapped it and cut us a check. I wasn't injured in any way at all, but I am still tense and a bit frightened whenever I find myself in a situation similar to the one right before the crash. I drive through that intersection to and from work, and I hate doing it.

I can only imagine what your son is going through. Be very supportive of him when he goes on a drive by himself for the first time since his accident. He will need it.
