When I tried to print a map from the internet I got an on-screen message saying "Printer Cartridge Problem". The cartridges are quite new and have loads of ink in them so I took them out and cleaned the contacts and nozzles with acetone but this made no difference. I thought maybe it was a problem with printing from the internet so I tried to delete the documents in the printer tray with a view to then printing out a Word document but it will only delete the latest documents in the print queue not the one at the front of the queue. Can anybody help on this please.

What make printer and what OS are you running?

Has the printer ever worked properly?

Hewlett Packard printer 1317 and Windows XP. Yes, the printer's always worked ok in the past.

I've managed to clear the queue by restarting my pc but I'm still getting the printer cartridge problem msg so I think I'll have to buy a new cartridge.

    Thanks.

Thanks burrell - I appreciate your efforts anyway.

Thanks also plodr. Your suggestions helped, albeit indirectly! ... I went to the link you gave me and went through the steps there. What was mentioned there that I hadn't already tried was cleaning the contacts on the printer carriage itself. To do this I took out both cartridges, then realized I didn't have any distilled water so I then put both cartridges back into the carriage and closed the door while I messed about looking for coffee filters to filter some tap water through etc etc. Lo and behold, when I went back to the printer I saw that the illuminated E on the top of the printer (indicating an error) had now disappeared and the printer seemed ready to print and I was able to print out a map from the net. I can't explain this. The only thing I did which I hadn't done before was take out both cartridges at the same time and this seemed to right things!

But, once again, thanks to both of you for your help.

I'm glad something worked. File away for future reference - take both cartridges out at once if nothing else seems to work. :-D

    Very good lol :-D
It's like the "unplug it all, and plug it back in again". amazing how that works sometimes
