when I complete a search using google or yahoo and I click on a link for a webpage, I am redirected to the wrong sight, usually similar, and to go to the site I had intended I have to hit the back button in my web browser(IE).

After this happens if I search with malewarebytes or a similar program it comes back that I have malware. If I scan again immediately it comes back that I am not infected, and then if I search again, it clicking a link on a search page sends me to the wrong site again, and then a malware search comes back with more malware.

I have completed the procedure it the READ AND RUN ME FIRST and although my computer seems to be working better I am still having the same search redirection issues.

I am attaching the log files

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop
    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bold command into Run box and hit Enter.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\TDSSKiller.exe" -v
    • Follow the instructions to type in "delete" when it asks you what to do when if finds something.
    • When done, a log file should be created on your C: drive named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I strongly advise you to cleanup your Desktop. Remove eveything but links to run programs. Do not download and save programs here and defintely do not use it for long term storage. You need to keep ComboFix.exe here for now as we need it, but we will be removing it when we are finished with your cleanup. A cluttered Desktop is malware's playground and it can also cause performance degradation especially when you start saving large files here like you are doing.

Now you must disable Spybot's Teatimer as requested in the READ & RUN ME. See this: How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Is your copy of Spyware Doctor a paid version or is it just a trial recently downloaded when you go infected? If a trial, uninstall immediately it as it is of no use to you unless purchased.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 <-- years out of date

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thank you so much for the help so far, but i had a problem and need to know how to continue.

I completed the part about the tdsskiller and have attached the log.

I cleaned up the desktop a bit as advised.

I disabled sypbot's teatimer, I didn't even realize spybot was running at all, but I fixed that issue

    I removed sypware doctor

I uninstalled the old version of sypbot

    I ran hijack this

!!!!!!Here is where I had a problem and want to know how to proceed!!!!!!

I ran combo fix in the manner I was told to, it seemed to run fine, quicker than the first time even, when my computer restarted and while combofix said it was producing a log, my computer screen went blue, with some sort of critical error, it to shut down and restrarted. It didn't do that when I ran it the first time during the Read & Run me.

Should I run combofix again? should I move on to the next step with the ccleaner? Should I do something entirely different?

I did not locate a log directly on C drive where I thought it was before, but I did locate a log for combofix in a combofix folder on the C drive, maybe it was there last time and I am just remembering wrong. Either way I have attached it.

Thanks again for the help so far

No! Just continue on with the rest of my instructions.

Not the correct log. It is only an intermediate piece of the final log that will normally be created when combofix runs properly. The proper log is ALWAYS, C:\combofix.txt

However it appears that TDSSkiller fixed your problem with redirects.

Ok, I finished up, and have attached the final file you requested.

My computer seems to be running faster than ever, and my searches are working correctly, thank you so much for the help

Is that it, or are there final steps to complete the process

You're welcome. Your logs are clean.

Yes the below are your final instructions.;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you for all the help, everything seemed to work out great, but I just have one little problem that started since I completed the procedures to get rid of the malware. The problem is now I can't load videos on the internet, such at news sites or youtube. Is this an issue with the recovery procedure or do you know of a way I can get videos to load?

Chaslang has lost power for the last few days and can not get on the net. I suggest that you post in the software forum for your issue with video loading. Nothing in his fixes would have affected that.

TimW is correct. This is not related to what we have done. You may need to reinstall some special codecs or software that you were using to display videos.
