Got a new 'puter (finally!)

Broke down and I finally bought a new computer. It's a Systemax from CompUSA. Came with Windows 7 Home Premium, Celeron Dual Core 2.5G, 3G DDR3, and a 320G HD. I slapped in a nVidia 240 1G and also bought a nVidia 9400GS PCI and a 400w PS for my son's computer (PCI because his PCI-e slot fried somehow :confused).

Got it all and a 22 in Acer for under $900.

So --- how'd I do?

Well, you got a decent machine but what bugs me is the PSU and PCI purchase. I don't get the relationship between the two.:confused I'll assume you had a thread that I missed somewhere. I hope your son doesn't play too many games.

 

Two separate computers, Auggie... My son's is about a year old. It was running a 8400 PCI-e and one day the video got scrambled and the driver for the bus got corrupted. I didn't wish to by another PCI-e card to find out that I'm right about the bus so --- I found (amazingly) a 9400 PCI card. Snatched that bad boy right up! My son is very happy now. :-D

Actually, now there's three, as I have hooked up the dinosaur to the family room big screen so me and/or the wife have another option for e-mails and surfing while the computers downstairs are being drooled over by the kids. :-D

You know what --- I never named my dinosaur so I never thought about naming this one.

Sweet rig man enjoy it get some decent games installed.

 

Maybe you should wait to name it. If it is quiet, reliable, and works hard all day, give it a man's name.
If once a month it goes on the fritz for a week...better not finish that.:-D:-D:-D

Nah, Fred's just being anal about it though I have to say Fred's case is impeccable.

 

I think Fred should post a picture of HIS case and WE'LL the judge of that!!:-D

 

Just showing off the plasticy newness of it (yea! no more busted knuckles --- look at all that free space in there!) --- Next on the list -- a new, more powerful PS so I can truly reap the benefits of the graphics card. :drool (and so I can manage the wiring better...)
