Is it poss' to get a pc to boot using both cores of a dual core & is there a downside

Hi all, a friend was telling me that it is easy to get a pc to boot using both cores (during boot process) of a dual core cpu instead of the default use of only one core, and that by doing so would usually see a 20% faster boot time.

Is this possible? and if so what would be the downside if any?

Yep click on the start button then click on run in the window and type in "msconfig" without the quotes.Click on Boot then Advanced then Number of Proceccors and tick the box then select 2 to use both your cores.Do it my self but TBH I dont really notice a big difference.

Just wondering about mine!
Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Quad CPU, Q6600@2.4GHz 2.39GHz

Looks like 2 processors but not sure. Other than a slight faster boot time any other advantages/disadvantages?

I cant really see there being any other advantages as it only affects the boot process.

Thanks for your replies guys, I would still like to know from anyone if there is a downside to this? also, the above is only for windows, I dual boot with Linux and wonder if this can be done from the BIOS, not that Linux boot time needs any speed up though
