windows 7 cd key wont work after format

i have a retail copy of windows 7 complete package

It has both 32 and 64 bit, well i first used 32 bit, and have recently finished building a new system, the only things ive reused are hard drives and the graphic card, so i transfered my hdd's to my new system, formatted the drive with windows 7 on, and put 64 bit on, now when i go to activate windows online it wont accept the cd key.... even though the cd key is suppose to be transferable...

only thing i can think of that is causing a problem is the fact i didnt format my w7 hdd before i moved it to the new system, please please please dont tell me that is the problem as tht wud mean dismantling my new system, and re building my old one just to format the hdd, i dont think i could bare taking appart my new one =/

 

Exactly what error are you getting? Please post a screenshot of it if possible.

 

it was something along the lines of try a different cd key, and it gave me several options such as re-type key again, activate over phone etc... i have solved it, i used the activation over phone, something to do with using that option they transfer the license... sorry for messing around, but i hope this helps anyone else who has this problem. Its all an automated service, takes a while but it gets the problem sorted
