Oh.my.god. I feel like a little kid who has been pushing a Matchbox car around the living room and someone just handed me the keys to a Formula One racecar!!! I am giddy like a little girl! :-D

OK, here's the scoop (to a point...he was evil and didn't include a spec sheet, so I'm having to find things out on my own):
    Antec Sonata III 500 case
    Asus P5N7a-VM motherboard
    Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 @2.4GHz
3.25GB RAM (I forgot to look and I'm too darn excited to pull the side of the case off again, so forgive my lack of brand names)
    nVidia nForce something-or-other
    LG DVD writer
    iStar card reader
    Windows XP SP3

This is bad...I don't want to take the time to figure out how big the HDD is. LOL I'll really need to pull the side off again tomorrow and get more details. I just couldn't wait to share. :-D

Thank you! LOL I've been so hyper I completely forgot how to do that! LOL

250GB. I may swoon! LOL Seriously...it's been a hundred years since I've had a REAL new toy. I may never go to bed. :-D

Congrats on the new thinking machine, Tibbs:cool. At a guess, I would say you 'prolly have 4GB of RAM, (showing up as 3.25GB in Win XP, (32 bit)).
There's quite a few progs. you can use to tell you what you have in terms of hardware/software. Everest, as stated, or Belarc Advisor, (free d/l), etc.

    ~ Enjoy your new toy!;):).

Sounds like a very nice new "toy".
Ensure you have defenses installed first thing. Hate to have that machine hosed before you really have a chance to play with it.

Ooo, that's a nice toy! Congratulations!

And don't listen to those boring people earlier in the thread. Stay up and play with it for as long as you want to. LOL

Apparently, W7 has issues with that mobo according to customer feedback.

HEY, congrats Tibbs!! Now you can multitask to your hearts content.:cool

I am a bizarre combination of a total geek and a Luddite. My old machine was running Win 2K. LOL We decided XP would be the best option for me to get dragged kicking and screaming into the near past rather than the distant past. LOL

The guy who sent it to me runs Futurelooks and MEGATechNews (I "work" for him at the latter), and if I understand correctly the various companies involved sent him the parts and "all" he did was put it together. I suspect there will be dozens of cookies heading his way again soon, since he insists it was a gift. He'll be sending me pics of the assembly as well as a spec sheet soon, so I'll post the real, (hopefully) less giddy stuff then. :-D

As for sleep...BAH! I was up until almost 5am installing security and all my other stuff, then spent at least ten minutes mooning over how very pretty the case is. LOL

LOL For some reason that made me giggle.

Congrats on the new addition, Tibbs. Have a blast.

I need to think of a new electronic toy I can get and play with. They're so fun!

Got my info today. Ironically, I'm at my niece's house on my ancient laptop to post this. LOL

Our friends at ANTEC pitched in a brand new SONATA III Enclosure complete with a 500W power supply
OCZ Technology pitched in one of their FATAL1TY Branded DDR2 800 Performance Memory Kits
ASUS stepped up and pitched in an ASUS P5N7A-VM Motherboard

    Futurelooks provided the muscle and...
INTEL Q6600 Quad Core Socket 775 2.4 GHz CPU
    Seagate 7200.10 250GB SATAII 7200RPM Hard Drive
    LG DVD Writer
    iSTAR Multi Card Reader
    Windows XP Pro License

And the rest of the pics. The funny thing is, I'm being thanked with the system. I am absolutely beside myself with gratitude for the machine. This is, hands down, the best thing anyone has ever done for me...and all from a guy I've known casually on message boards for a few years and have been working for about 18 months, who I've never met. There are decent people in the world, and I must say Stephen Fung of Futurelooks/MEGATechNews is absolutely at the top of my list.

Okay, after seeing the hardware inside that thing, I am impressed. That is a beautiful thing to give someone. You owe this guy LOTS of home made cookies, along with a genuine "thank you!" letter. :)

Never doubt that there are good and decent people alive and well in this world. If nothing else because if you ever do, I'll have to confiscate that computer from you on general principle. ;)

That's a pretty impressive gift there, Sgt.
~Yeah there still a few decent people around, they just don't get the publicity that all the bad stuff does, but they're there,;). Glad you're a happy camper!:cool
