With a budget of about $1300, looking for a gaming laptop, Core i7, Nvidia 1GB video memory, 500 GB HD, 4-6 GB RAM. I'm considering a Battalion 101 CZ-11 Ultra from ibuypower (which I'd have to wait 10-14 days for). But I'm also eyeing an Asus G73JH-RBBX0 at the local Best Buy (instant gratification). Here's what I'm curious about: The Ultra has a native 1920x1080 native resolution, while the Asus has 1600x900. I have never seen a laptop with full HD native resolution in the flesh. So is true HD native res on a 15.6" laptop squint-inducing? The Asus is a 17.3" incher. Again, I don't mind a behemoth. TIA!

I'd go with the Ibuypower one

All things being equal, the one from ibuypower sounds like the better machine. Considering the other one comes from Best Buy, if they paid you $1300 to walk in the door you'd probably still be walking out at a loss, some how some way.

I couldn't find the Asus model, I cold only find the Asus G73JH-X1, not sure how different but if the X1 is the one you're looking at, it has more graphical power, ATI 5870 as opossed to the Battalion which has a 5650.

Bare in mind this is based on an alternative Asus to the one you posted.

Edit: I'm thinking the whole G73JH series have the same GFX.

My gaming laptop has a 16-inch screen, with the obscurely perverse resolution of 1366x768, and claims to be true HD. I believe it. It can run The Witcher at max settings and it looks goood. I have experienced no involuntary squinting. :cool

    It's the ASUS N61Jq, if you're curious.

Thanks, Mimsy. I was curious about the 1366x768 native resolution offered by most "HD" laptops. I would assume that it can't be too bad, at higher than 1280x720, which some console games display at. I would prefer to walk into my local Fry's in case of any issues. But as I said, native 1920x1080 is pretty hard to find in the flesh. (Closest I've seen is 1600x900.) With Fry's in mind, can I get by with a Core i5 (but still 1GB of dedicated/discreet VRAM)? All of your feedback is most apprecaited! I LOVE this board!
