Hope that someone might be able to help me with this.:cry:cry

Had problems with the game Civilization which have never happened before. Tried to uninstall the game; could not do so, so tried System Restore and that did not help, did scans, etc., and nothing would work.

In desperation downloaded Revo Uninstaller Pro. This program sorted out the problem with the game, but now I cannot access the internet. I use dial up at home, and am presently at the library using another computer with wireless access. I tried to put Firefox on the computer, transferring it from the computer I am using now - same problem. No access to anything connected to the Internet.

Also, I have noticed in the recycle bin that there are all sorts of bits and pieces, including a document looking item with a round wheel looking thing on the right side, with the name INETLOCK. Also, when I click START > All Programs I can see the Internet Lock, which looks as though it has been uninstalled (has two of those blue and white looking icons - one with Internet Lock and the other Uninstall Internet Lock), and between the two is what looks to be a document with a question mark on it called Internet Lock Help, but though Windows searches for it, it says that it is Missing Shortcut. And just continues with the little torch search...

The Internet Lock, by the way, figures on the All Programs list, just above Mozilla Firefox. In order - on the program list - at the very end of the list are: Revo Uninstaller Pro, Firaxis Games, Internet Lock and finally Mozilla Firefox. Revo and Internet Lock do not have the 'orange line' over them to show as newly downloaded.

AVG is on the computer, and of course cannot access anything. :cry

Would be very grateful for help with this. And thank you very much.

First thing to do is restore the Internet Lock files back out of the recycle bin. Did you not use this program? Did someone else install this program? My understanding is it can control internet access, block internet connections, password protect internet connections and programs.

It may be why you can't access the web.

Go to start / run / and type:
    cmd

When the command prompt opens, type:
    ipconfig /all

Tell us what is there ( you can attach it or just list it.)

Thank you very much for replying,TimW.

In reply I am not sure if the program was used, or who installed it.

I have copied the information from the other computer onto mine, so hope that I copied it correctly (have double checked). This is what came up when I did what you said in your message:

Thank you again for your help. The XP computer is not often used on the internet, but when it is, it is with dial-up.

Is this solved, the first thing I would try would be to go to the control panel, select internet options and try to establish a new connection.

At least some years ago, it was common to have to reestablish a dial-up connection.:wave:wave

Brandypeppy is on the right track. If you cannot setup a new connection, you'll likely need to run sfc /scannow in DOS, or you may have to insert the Windows CD and do a repair on the OS.

    Hi,

I am getting confused. I would rather just wait for the reply from TimW to what he asked me to do. :-o

the 169.254.xxx.xx range of IP addresses comes about when XP is confused (from my understanding) and uses a default one.

The Subnet Mask I believe should also be 255.255.255.0

    Good Luck

Not relevant - the OP is using dialup.

Did you restore the program from the recycle bin? I have a feeling the program may be at fault. Since you are able to access the web with your computer, maybe we should look at your ipconfig for comparison.

Hello. Do you mean the ipconfig for the newer computer with Vista on it, which can access the web?

I am afraid that I do not know how to restore the program on the XP from the recycle bin.:-o

No, the OP is using a library computer and at home is on dialup so router IPs and submask nets do not apply in this situation.
I suspect when you ran Revo Uninstaller you deleted too many registry items.
At step 4, you must never delete all. You are only to at maximum select the items in bold type for removal. I suspect you might have deleted some very necessary windows registry keys.

Is there a way to undo the Revo Uninstall and start back from square one again?

@plodr....thanks, I missed that part about the library.

@ Maineskygazer ...I was asking if you open your recycle bin, and if the Interlock items are still there, to just click on each and hit restore. Though plodr could be right in your having removed things that shouldnt have been removed with Revo.

There are two Dell laptop computers at home: one is an older one with XP that my husband uses (with the game, which now cannot access the internet, but can access the IP), and the other is mine with Vista, which is in fine condition.

I feel I might be confusing things, so that is the easiest way to say it. :confused

I wonder if when I am at home, I can take a list of what is in the recycle bin and post that in the morning. If I am unable to copy and paste the list, I could type it out with a description and then post it here. Would that help?

If your Vista laptop can access the web thru dial up, yes, post the ipconfig for it. Then we can compare the two.

This is when I have the dial up connection. Before I post it, I just wanted to say that I copied out all that is in the Recycle Bin on the XP. Would you like me to post that? Also, I restored the Internet lock items that I found in the Recycle Bin, but no luck.

Anyway, this is from my Vista computer, when I am on dial up:

    The recycle bin:

    * Only the following ITEM - Uninstall - in this list does not show a shortcut arrow and its original location is given as C:\Documents \Settings/User/Desktop, the date deleted is 3/4/2010 at 1:10, and modified 3/4/2010 at 1:pM 428 KB of Registration Entries. It has small blue squares on a plain note pad looking document:
    Uninstall
These that follow are again shortcuts:
    Launch Sid Meier’s Civilization …
    Launch Sid Meier’s Civilization 4
AVG Free 8.5 (which looks like an empty document…showing shortcut)
Firefox Setup 3.6.3 applications with nothing on them (2 of them)
    CallWave

Just as a note; from Fvariable System to Finput Device the location of all the Shortcuts was C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meieir’s Civilization 4\Warlords\CVGameCoreDLL(2) – And CallWave was also there too.
