I swear that all you read here is true.
6 weeks ago i was scheduled for my next surgery to replace my left hip, so i duly turned up at the hospital and had the job done, after 6 days they let me go home.
I had abnormal amounts of pain that could not be explained by my physio but i stuck at it.

Last week Tuesday morning i climbed out of bed around 06 30 and went about my usual routine, first the head and then coffee, I had just started the coffee machine and out of the blue i heard this loud crack and ended up in a pile of :crap on the floor, unable to stand i had to call my wife to come and assist.
Each time i tried to stand i blacked out with the pain so my good lady called the ambulance who duly took me back to the hospital where after much screaming for mercy they got me on the X-Ray machine, after this i was asked had i fallen, a bit suspicious i asked why and they said the replacement hip was broken in two pieces.
So it was straight to the op theater and out with the old in with the new.
They kept me prisoner for 8 days and still do not believe me when i tell them i had not fallen until after the crack.

The moral to this story is "if i did not have bad luck i would have no luck at all"

    Damn, Bill! That sounds excruciating.

Ooooh thats true, you could quite easily visit uncle Tom and Auntie Sue , man it sucks though. You deserve some sort of comp for the excess pain, no one pays out when they should eh, like I said, you and me should get together, with our bad luck we could take over the world!! :strong .......and then it would break :-D

Sorry to hear of your pain and suffering, Bill. And after all that waiting, too. If you didn't fall, then it was obviously a dodgy hip replacement. Not like you wouldn't remember it if you fell hard enough to break your hip in two places rolleyes. Hope that you heal up fast, my friend. It would be nice to walk without pain.
I have a dicky foot/knee/hip problem on my right side, which is bad enough. I can only imagine what that would feel like.

I don't see how it could be your fault aren't those things made of stainless steel, vitallium or titanium and like 5 times stronger than a human hip?

I would imagine if the metal part broke there would have already been a weak spot, unless it broke out of the joint or your femur, ouch :eek

  14. BILLMCC66

    Oh don't i wish Augie.

    Thats where it broke Rikky

The one they fitted was a super lightweight job so i suppose it's back to the drawing board with that one.
Now because of the damage to my femur they have had to put in the really old one (a bit like me:-D) let's just hope it heals OK.

Bloody hell Bill you’ve just put the fear of God in me, had mine done last week went in on Tuesday, spinal, bash, bash, hammer, hammer, saw, saw, Morphine haaaaaaa haaaaaaa more Morphine, out of bed Wednesday. Crutches Thursday, home on Friday, visitors are getting fewer and fewer as the need for a shower grows. Things can only get better Bill, and as my old mum used to say GODS GOOD, AND THE DEVIL’S NOT TOO BAD ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW HIM.

I had the op wednesday last week and i am now up and about with just one crutch which is an improvement on how things were (wheelchair) so i am looking on the bright side.

The pain was not pleasant but if this works i will soon forget it.

They can have five attempts on mine keep jamming paper mache hips in until my femur is worn down to a nub as long as I can keep my $55,000.

Coincidently, my next door neighbor just went into the hosp. yesterday to have her knee replacements replaced, one at a time I'm sure. I don't know when she had them done originally, but she has an attorney so can't be all that long.

It's scary enough having surgery and something implanted inside you but then to have it recalled like a car part, that's BS

I am toying with the idea of an attorney Darlene but litigation is very difficult here against a hospital doctor as they just keep throwing money at the problem rather than admit there was a mistake made and without doubt they have deeper pockets than me.

I am trying to get hold of the X-Ray photo's but they are stalling me, so i suspect they realize what i am contemplating.

Theres few story why it just adds up on me hating doctors(even the good ones around here). One of my family members worked for a higher up doctor.. in the few years she worked there. There were complaints and things brought up about this doctor and one of them was a woman that went in for minor thing and was to be out later that night.. she came in had this minor thing done.. left.. few days later woman comes back to hospital all black and dies. They didn't investigate it. Another thing was someone told her that they heard the doctor say "to late to go in there and get it now" during the procedure so who knows. But if they open there mouth they just be arrested for say this kind of stuff.... knowing these cops. Also my mom was totally fine with walking.. she had her knees worked on seperate times.. 1st time she had to go back like 4 or 5 times cause doctor messed up and eventually she never returned to work and hasnt walked since the surgery to much. She almost so bad she needs a wheelchair and shes healthy young woman.

Must be in bad pain and frustrated at the same time

I feal for you as my dad had two back surgeries fail on him. I probably should make a post about since it's been a while since I've done that in some time. He's been going on this back pain battle for many years now. Thinking he may need ANOTHER surgery now but not sure.

    darlene1029 A Grand Lady- R.I.P. 06/06/2012

@ Bill, hope you get some satisfaction, it's bad enough going through the surgery once but again because of faulty parts, they should step up and admit it, as if that would ever happen though huh? Good luck

@ silas, there has been a number of doctors here arrested for inappropriate touching of women and one who was the head of a clinic was selling crack right out of his office. Had to be using it to be so stupid.

@ pclover, thats a shame about your dad, seems like people always have to keep having surgery when it's on their back. Hope he gets relief. Also hope your mother is doing better.

Well the saga continues, as i said before "if it was not for my bad luck i would have no luck at all"

Two weeks ago they removed some pins and screws form my left leg/knee that have been in there a few years and were coming loose,
I have been with a caliper on my leg since but the pain was excruciating so i went back for them to have a look and yippeeeee i have got septicemia in the holes left by the removal.
They used a needle about a foot long (well it looked that big) to draw off some of the poison, i have to go back on monday morning for another big needle attack and to discuss what if anything can be done.
The options are limited because i have had the maximum amount of anesthetic ( 3 major operations in 15 weeks) for at least six months without risking heart damage.

No doubt if i get this in order then something else will pop up.

So sorry to hear that Bill. :( Jeez, that sounds beyond painful.

I don't understand the anesthesia, though. Does it stay in your body that long?? I figured your body would get rid of it pretty quickly.

  39. BILLMCC66

    BILLMCC66 Bionic Belgian

@ Fred Thanks for the good thoughts, I like many others who have a disability just accept it as a challenge.

@ Laura according to the anethstesiologist the direct effects soon wear off but the strain that it puts on the heart can be dangerous in the long term.

For younger people it is relatively minor risk but as you get older the risk is increased and Doctors are reluctant to give more than a certain amount over a given period.

Hmm, they don't remove screws and plates after things have healed? Anyways, good luck on the infection. Oh, gf forgot to mail the VGA dummy plug. She has profusely apologized and will mail it next week. Hang in there man!

    @ Halo
It reads like a storyline to a bad soap opera, I keep thinking i am getting to the end and it throws another surprise.

@ Augie What happened is with my bone degeneration the pins and screws came loose so they told me the best thing was to remove them to prevent more damage.

As for the VGA no problems i am grateful for the help.

I am mobile now albeit with crutches and the pain is held to a dull throb with the happy pills.

My greatest problem is this degeneration of the bone as the repairs they do now start to work loose over time, this is the reason they have given me for the femur breaking after the last op, that the bone looked good but inside it was very weak.

The biggest pain i have right now is not being able to drive my new auto, it's got a stick shift so i need the left leg.http://bestsmileys.com/angry2/11.gif
