A moment of silence, please

...my trusted partner in crime has passed away. :cry A reliable ally against zombies, darkspawn, geth, Imperial storm troopers, orcs, gangsters, Sith renegades, and horrendous mutants, has left me alone and powerless to combat my enemies.

In short, the CPU cooler in my main gaming PC has died on me. It's passed on. It is no more. It has ceased to be. It's pushing up the daisies. It is an ex-cooler. :(

The whole system goes through POST without any issues at all, except the motor to the pump on the water-cooling never comes on. It used to hum reassuringly whenever I pressed the power button, but now it is depressingly silent. The PC just makes it to where it beings to spin up the hard drives, then begins to squeal loudly from over-heating pains, and powers off.

Removing the current cooling system to get a good look at the pump (it's a compact so the pump is right on top of the plate attached to the CPU) would require me to remove literally everything so I can pull the motherboard out of the case to get to the cooler's back plate. Since I am frustrated enough right now that I'm seriously tempted to stab the motherboard with my screwdriver, I have decided to call it a night and go back to working on this tomorrow.

I am having a scotch in memory of my departed friend. He was a good companion, a reliable ally, and he will be sorely missed. :wine

Never had a "friend" like that, myself, but rest assured that you have my sympathies and condolences.
I know you miss "him" now, but time will heal your sorrow.

Welp, that aint cool, if you'll excuse the ironic expression.
I had the water reservoir crack on my water cooled system years ago. Never got around to replacing it to this day. Luckily, the mainboard was a few inches above the floor of the case.
Hope it gets sorted out soon, Mimsy, so you can resume your battles.:major

    That bites, Mimsy. :(

Having to take the whole system apart to replace it is salt in the wound.

Say, first your ice maker malfunctions . . . now your CPU cooling system has failed . . . . :confused

Coincidence? Or is there something sinister afoot? Is something attacking all your cold related appliances?

Sorry to hear this Mimsy, maybe a new pump will have it up and fighting soon. Or maybe you should honor his last wishes, and upgrade to a more better battle rig. :-D

Sorry to hear about that. The fan on my Dell D3K just gave out. Having a look at it as we speak. Posting from the netbook.

    Try juggling
    1) looking at a screwed up fan
    2) downgrading my little sister's laptop to XP
    3) working on an english project
    4) cleaning my room
    5) trying to learn the drum part to my song for pit orchestra

    at the same time.

    lol

My condolences on your loss! May your cooler friend sleep well with the other parts and accessories that went before him, and may you glory in the happy memories of your multitudes of shared battles.

I also congratulate you on deciding to tip a Scotch in his memory rather than sending him a motherboard friend so soon after his demise. It is too hard to lose two good friends in such close succession.

I will raise a 16 year old SMS glass in his honor tonight.

Damn, I love Scotch, too bad my taste out prices my budget most of the time.

Roger Moore's first, song by Linda and Paul McCartney, I saw him perform this in the Milwaukeee County stadium back in the 80's. Fantastic!

Ahh, well, I admit it looked familiar, have always liked the Bond movies, but I just entered the URL from the video, and got the name of it from youtube. :-D

Mimsy....my daughters Toshiba laptop will be following your system to the great techno resting place in the sky. :( It crashed on her last night, would not boot to the recovery console, would not run BartPE, will not do a chkdsk, and will be put to rest in our great pile of hardware. She is devistated as she never got around to backing up her pictures and files to the external HHD I gave her months ago. It is a sad day when our old friends go belly up. ( I would resurrect it, but the battery has died years ago. )

    R.I.P Toshiba!!

I take a certain comfort in knowing that my CPU cooler will be in god company. Ned's PS3 is waiting for him, and zDawg's computer fan and Tim's daughter's laptop are joining them for some good times in electronics heaven... where there never are soda spills or power surges, and the servers are always online.

Rest well, dear friends. We will miss you. :wine

They're all connected to GodNet, 999999999TB/S upstream and 99999999TB/S downstream.

Sorry Dawg, but once I recover all her files, the computer will be reformated and kept as a back up. There is always the chance that I can replace the hard drive ( if in fact it is failing ) and still use it as a networked backup server. So it is possible that ( besides the battery being dead ) the computer may be only in need of a new hard drive and only the old hard drive will go to the great techno resting place in the sky. :major
