I'm guessing folks will need a bit more info to help you out better, Shanna. What version operating system, etc.

I know it's possible to revive a desktop without disks, CDs and such via system restore. I'm guessing without knowing for sure that the same can be done with a notebook.

Finally, If you have access to a computer that does have a floppy drive and/or a CD drive, I'm sure you can transfer recovery files from such disks to a memory stick and then use the memory stick in the USB port to effectuate recovery.

    Hope this helps some.

What kind of laptop is it? You may have to go out and purchase a USB dvd/cd drive. You will also need to purchase some software.

If you tell us the name of the laptop , it will help.
These older laptops either had a seperate slot with a blank in it the a cd rom, or, a floppy could be fitted to.
Later ones used usb floppy, and cd connections.
If the bios has the option, and there is a usb slot, it will help to know.

Looking around, with medion Laptops, it seems that they came with a cd/dvd drive, depending of course on the model numnber(2210-2230 etc:)
    Have you the model number.
Next, if it fits as the numbered medions that I looked at , any dvd rom can be used from another laptop, as long as it has the slanted bit on one side to slide in, and the fixing tab(may be different on other laptops) will need to be removed, unless it does fit to the required screw hole- I have rarely found that part the same- but could be used by pushing home into rear slot, but I think it has to be flat fronted , so as not to stop it pushing home completely.( It seems similar to many Toshiba dvd roms that I am always interchanging- (HP DVD Roms seem to be square at the rear, on some I have seen) I see that usb dvd rw are on ebay for £20/30- but perhaps you can borrow one.
Otherwise a usb dvd rom, or, even a usb cd rom, will work to install windows.
Check on the model number and we might be able to help more.

Yes, that model uses a usb cd/dvd rom, so looks like you will have to borrow one, or, fork out about £30 for one.

    Hi

Do me a favour and enter the BIOS (keys to enter it should popup on screen as you boot the PC) and check in the boot order if you can boot from USB?

If you can its possible for us to create a bootable USB stick and pop Windows onto it so you can re-install, this route is used for netbooks, but will need at least a 2GB USB stick, steps can be posted later if you can indeed boot from USB.

Yes, it should, Halo, as that model only had a usb rom , none internal.
I have not yet got around to trying from a usb stick, but the cheaper way, obviously.

    Hi Baklogic

Cheers so as that PC will boot from USB, then follow the instructions HERE to create a bootable USB pen (do take care when using diskpart and make sure you choose your USB pen, generally its the smallest of the sizes "listdisk" will show)

Just subsitute Vista for XP CD as it was written for Vista etc at the time.
