    How do I stop the computer from auto-restarting after it auto updates? I want it to auto update but ask about restarting instead of the message which gives you 15 minutes to respond and then restarts if you don't respond. (See attached picture.)

    As stated, XP Home SP2, and I think that SP2 may be a recent addition. Not my computer so I'm not sure and the Update site seems to have me jumping through hoops trying to get hold of any history.

    I think this might be what you want:

    1. Click Start -> Run
    2. Enter gpedit.msc
    3. Go to Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update
    4. Double-click on “No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Update installation”
    5. Click the Enabled button
    6. Reboot the computer

    Thanks, but if I recall correctly from the looking around I've done, XP Home doesn't have group policies, and that's what gpedit.msc is, isn't it? This computer certainly didn't understand the command.

    Any other suggestions?
