Ok, I went ahead and followed this guy's advice in another post:-

    Hi,

if you are blanking out part of the user name please bear in mind that you need to change it back before running any fixes I post you where your name figures.

Please download HelpAsst_mebroot_fix.exe and save it to your desktop.
Close out all other open programs and windows.
Double click the file to run it and follow any prompts.
If the tool detects an mbr infection, please allow it to run mbr -f and shutdown your computer.
Upon restarting, please wait about 5 minutes, click Start>Run and type the following bolded command, then hit Enter.

    helpasst -mbrt

Make sure you leave a space between helpasst and -mbrt !

When it completes, a log will open.

Please post the contents of that log.

In the event the tool does not detect an mbr infection and completes, click Start>Run and type the following bolded command, then hit Enter.

    mbr -f

Now, please do the Start>Run>mbr -f command a second time.

Now shut down the computer (do not restart, but shut it down), wait a few minutes then start it back up.

Give it about 5 minutes, then click Start>Run and type the following bolded command, then hit Enter.

    helpasst -mbrt

Make sure you leave a space between helpasst and -mbrt !

When it completes, a log will open.

Please post the contents of that log.

**Important note to Dell users - fixing the mbr may prevent access the the Dell Restore Utility, which allows you to press a key on startup and revert your computer to a factory delivered state. There are a couple of known fixes for said condition, though the methods are somewhat advanced. If you are unwilling to take such a risk, you should not allow the tool to execute mbr -f nor execute the command manually, and you will either need to restore your computer to a factory state or allow your computer to remain having an infected mbr (the latter not recommended).

After I downloaded and ran the mbr fix. exe, it shut down my computer and I restarted it . Then I ran helpasst and -mbrt and it did not detect anything.

You do not appear to have this infection. Perhaps you already removed it when you ran HelpAsst_mebroot_fix

Are you currently actually having any malware problems?

Ok, whew, yes looks it cleared up. No, I don't detect any malware problems. But it was there and I found it just because I ran the Super Anti Spyware scan and it detected cookies from a Help Assistant folder when I looked at C: Documents and Settings then I saw the Help Assistant folder. I deleted it and it had copied my files. After I used the HelpAsst_mebroot_fix, it detected it and appeared to have deleted it. So am I good now? Is there anything else I need to do? How did I manage to get this virus in the first place? I was watching a show that was on Megavideo and I fell asleep and my pc and net was still on. I woke up later and turned it off. Could someone have snuck past my firewall cos I have Comodo firewall as well as AVG. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Last but not least can i delete all the downloaded files- combofix, cccleaner, root repeal, Helpasst_ backup files (from mebroot fix) and enable cd emulation?

    Yes! And yes down below.

One of the most common ways (but not the only way) is downloading and viewing videos. Even happens on youtube. These files are not tested.

Since your logs are now clean, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thanks a lot for your help! Wow, I can't believe that they are putting malware on these video sites now. But I often use Megavideo and Zshare and the ads are dangerous. This never ue to happen before- just in the last month and a half. But where do I go then when I want to watch something? This is tough, Oh, I have AVG but I am wondering if it's effective, what is the best other free antivirus to use? Antivir or Avast??

    You're welcome.

    How about BlockBuster? ;)

Which is best can change each month. I actually prefer Avira over AVG since Avira appears to detect more than AVG and does not slow a PC down as much as AVG. However this does not mean there is a night and day difference. The key is in doing what we stated in the How to protect yourself link. You absolutely need to have a layered approach to protection. You need antivirus, antispyware, and firewall protection and you must keep them and all other software, including Windows, up to date. Also installing and using SpywareBlaster is highly recommended (which you have already).
