After dealing with regular shutdowns and random bsod's, running a full diagnostic, doing a factory restore, and then dealing with continued shutdowns, this morning my laptop case right to the right of the mousepad started making a clicking noise like it is starting to come loose.

Oh, and did I mention the fact that the letters have worn off on a bunch of my keys on my 6 month old laptop? (It couldn't possibly be because I'm on my computer too much!rolleyesrolleyes). That was it.

I called HP and am sending the thing in in the hopes that them changing out the Graphics Card, Mobo, and who knows what else will fix my issue.

He did say that random shutdowns are a lot of times heat related, which I did know.

I now have to make sure all my stuff is totally backed up. Then I will have to reload everything. :(:cry

Anyone want to make bets on whether I will get a fixed laptop?? :-D

He didn't mention the hard drive!:( Just the vid card and mobo.

If this stuff doesn't fix it, I guess maybe that'll be the next replacement.

Same sound and place on my daughters Toshiba computer that finally got to the point it wouldn't boot and can't find the hard drive. :(

Which sound? The clicking I was talking about?

Well, this thing is 6 months, so they'll just keep getting it back until it's fixed. I have a long warranty on it.

Yes, the clicking sound. And it's a damn good thing you have an extended warranty!!;)

That's weird. How would that be a sign of the hard drive failing? For mine, it seems more that the case is loose or something.

Clicking is often the stylus hitting the platters. It usually precedes a hard drive failure. :(

I have taken apart many a Toshiba laptop. My offer still stands!

    Ohhh.

No, mine isn't actually clicking inside while running. The actual case will sort of 'pop' down and back up when I rest my hand on it.

    @ z...did you offer him $10 for it? ;)
