My computer was running slowly so I decided to take my day off and work through the steps to remove Malware. I completed the Read and Do Me First Thread with no problems. I was working down the Vista cleaning thread, and things were going fine until I ran Combo Fix. It ran fine and completed a log, but when I try to open a program now I get the following message. "Illegal Operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." I have attached all logs I ran. I would appreciate any help and if any further information is needed please let me know. Thanks!

Click Start, Run, and enter sfc /scannow and click OK. There is a space after the sfc. This runs System File Checker which looks for missing or corrupted system files and attempts to replace/repair them from files on your hard disk or from the CD if necessary. So it will ask for the Windows CD if it needs it.

After running the above, reboot your PC and then continue on with the rest of the READ & RUN ME and attach the logs from RootRepeal and MGtools.

Note: Most slow PC issues are not due to malware. If you still have problems afterwards, you need to be much much much more specific about what is slow.

Please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any/every application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any processes showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?

When I tried to run sfc /scannow I got the same error as with every other program. Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion.

Sorry for being vague about what is slow. Boot up and shut down is about what it was and browsing is ok. The real slowness comes when running applications. In task manager the only thing that seems to take up much CPU time is svchost.exe.

Please boot into safe mode and try running the sfc command.
