I saw this and had to laugh.

I've never liked her, I admit she once had a great voice , but that was about it, she couldn't act thats for sure, but she always struck me as a spoilt brat with a big head who thinks she is above everybody else.........well... welcome to reality.
At 47 she not only sounds, but looks like a 60 year old cigar smoking, gin drinking hag.

I love to see people like her fall from grace, hand picked and hand fed stardom, as far as I know she never earnt it with real talent, she could sing.....well so can billions of other people, but to my knowledge most if not all of her songs were written by someone else, I have little respect for artists like that and frankly don't class them as "Artists" , at the end of the day, she was/is no different to the Spice Girls.

Cheered me up no end this story has :-D

To anyone who is a fan, please don't take offense, I'm sure you'd say the same things about some of the musicians I like :) ... although most of the musicians I like wrote their own material and could generally play an instrument :-D

Personally I'm sorry to see someone who is trying to clean up their act (so to speak) not be able to pull it off. Surly she knew all the crap she snorted had to affect her nasal and vocal areas of her body. If not she does now.

I would agree with you under normal circumstances Darlene, but in her case as with many others like her, they have scammed and cheated their way to the top, trodden on anyone and everyone to get there, got on the drug road and then sort simpathy.
She had it all, handed to her on a plate and she threw it away.

    Personal Qoute (IMDB) :

"God gave me a voice to sing with, and when you have that, what other gimmick is there?"

Gimmick? how about talent? A great voice is one thing, but to ride other peoples coat tails top the top based simply on an ability to sing, like I said, manufactured talent.

I've seen as I'm sure many of you have seen great local bands with real talent who never make it past the bar scene and then you get people like Houston who never even had to try, parents in the business and handed a free ticket and abused it. No respect for people like that.

As for drugs and stuff, well I give you good old Kieth Richards, Stephen Tyler, Eric Clapton,Jimmy Page to name just a few, none of them have lost their talent.......why?.....because they actually had talent to start with.

Sorry if I sound harsh, it just bugs me when someone makes it so big without working for it and then claims to be the best.

Ya, I don't get any pleasure out of seeing someone fail, she did have great voice, energy and presence but this listless performance is an insult to her fans. As to writing one's own material, not everybody can do both, either they write or sing exceptionally well. Look at Pavarotti, he wasn't a doper yet when his voice cracked once near the end of his career, he got booed! He certainly did not deserve that with an excellent career. Houston's demise was and continues to be self-induced. Maybe she'll bounce back as a sultry blues/R&B singer.:) I love the following, she's got to be early 80's here.:)

Geez Ned, that's really sad to know. Loved her music always. ''You wanna dance with some body" takes me back to the good old school-college years. Still will remember her crystal clear voice...and talented she was. Here's a later vid - pathetic movie though! Classically gorgeous looking as well..

I dont think any of us can truly say her voice is ruined/so lost to no repair(due to drugs and what not). She could be like Britney Spears and gone and little off the top for a while and later come back to sing many good times after a lot of work. But then again she could actually be totally out of it and never get it back and never return to what she could do. (maybe time for her to totally step down)

I had seen that earlier, what a horrible self destructive loss of talent.
Thanks for posting the real deal Sikvik, I needed to listen to that to get the first out of my head. :wave:wave

This is exactly it, she had it, she threw it away and it was totally self induced as you say Augie. People who have had their day should just accept the fact they have made a mark and leave it be, all too often we see stars try to make a comeback and IMO basically just rip off their fans and make fools of themselves.
There were a few songs of hers I liked but once again...written by someone else, nothing wrong with that in some respects but when ALL of your material is written by someone else and you claim it as your own I'm afraid I don't see any more talent than many people who go to karaoke night.
Pavarotti was a little different, he never tried to be or claim to be anything more than a singer, he also in the public eye was a gentleman and an all round nice guy, Houston made god knows how many millions and just wanted more. Not to mention ALL she did was sing, not what I call a performer, she is absolutely no different from those who win American Idol or some such, in fact thats exactly what she is.

Seriously, ask yourself this question, could you think of anyone else who could sing her songs and make them just as good?
If I thought about it I could probably think of many, how many people could do what Pavarotti did to that standard?

It's just a case of me hating manufactured music, yes many bands I like were handed it and i like their music, like Bon Jovi for example, but I wont deny Jon Bon Jovi was/is a prick, another one who trod on people to get where he is, BUT.... he wrote/co-wrote most of his material and he played an instrument AND he was a great performer.
Axel Rose, what an Arse, but you can't deny the guys musical writing AND singing abilities and again....he had showmanship and for that, I respect him, not to mention he knows he's an arse :-D .
He's trying to make a comeback, I think he should settle for what he's got.
Oasis, the Gallagher brothers, 2 lads most people would love to punch in the face......but Noel is an awesome guitarist and songwrtier and Liam is a great singer AND songwriter.
Now how many of you would care if Axel Rose made a fool of himself on stage?

Houston just sang, other peoples songs, he biggest song "I will always love you"........hmm where did she get that from?..... Oh yeah, Dolly Parton, someone who worked her way up and has the respect of most people in some form, what a wonderful woman, with talent and stage presence, still going ocasionally as far as I know and not praying for simpathy from her fans because she blew all her money on drugs.

Bottom line, Whitney Houston had a great voice, no denying it, but thats all she had and yet she claimed to be so much more and when SHE messed it all up, she cries for sympathy, well boo hoo, maybe she should take a walk in the real world and see people with real problems who don't have the cash to throw around to get personal help.

lol I just realised I kind of went into a rant there, no offense to any fans as I said, these are just my opinions and being very opinionated with music and feeling real talent has slipped away because of manufactured performers just annoys me, thankfully the last few years has seen some revival of good old fashioned hard working musicians with real talent working their way to the top and fully deserving it.

Absolutely Ned! She is one of the most self-deprecating and honest folks out there and I've always loved her interviews on the late shows. :cool I'm not into country music per se but if I had to choose.....Hee-Haw Dolly!!!:)

    Nedlamar MajorGeek

Thats exactly how I feel, I love watching her in interviews, she makes me laugh and is just so lovable. It's almost like she's still a little girl living in the 50's, so innocent yet not.... if you see what I mean lol
I also like some of her music even though I'm not a country fan, I always liked Jolene since I was a kid.
