Mine was an 1984 chevette (white) rust free and totally clean on the inside. I bought it for 900.00 from an older lady. I drove it in 2002 to HS and fit 4 up front and 1 in the back hutch that bent down. I called it a turtle slow and the look of it. I drove it to school every day with friends inside smoking cigs and drinking sodas. Very 1st time picking up a guy months later, I went to back up and he open the door and it smashed the whole car door frontwards. I called to make sure no report had to be made for tree scratching. I ended up having to kick door shut many times to get to shut. Eventually that car came to give many good times in winter most def and summer. Id drive into snow with the car only 3-4 inches off the ground and bumper always hit the normal streets even on a small hill(that low) anyways Id also go 30-40mph and slide sideways into snow banks in parking lots and get stuck all the time. Eventually I hit a pot hole and it pushed my engine up 2 inches causing severe oil and transmission leak. Id have to put big bottle in before school and after school to get it somewhere. Eventually so bad It was like driving in neutral around any curves or turning. I couldnt stop most time I stop and go to turn with buddies and its just flooring but no moment. So we have to push and laugh all the time. Many times I couldnt stop Id cruise by things. Anyways got so bad one day and wouldnt go forward I had to drive it in reverse to get it to the house (with 3 other buddies in it). So later on I put it in a demo and got 2cd place for compact cars. Then I got rust bucket ford truck 90's still got that sucker.

Mine was a 1967 Chevelle , used. Not given to me, I had to work to pay for it. Nice car, I had no problems with it, until I "tried" to drive to work in a blizzard. Got stuck in a snowdrift in the road, and burnt up the tranny. I sure do miss that car now.... :(

Car, never owned one. I live in the south, I drive a truck. :-D First one was a '82 (I think) one I got used from my neighbor. Still got the hooptie '93 Nissan truck. Bought it with 3 miles on it. Working on a quarter million miles now. :cool

Ah, my first car! It was a 1949 Ford, four-door (suicide doors) with a flathead 8 and 3 on the column. It wasn't the fastest car around, but that thing was built like a tank. I got it on my 16th birthday and I still wish I had it today. But, when I joined the Marines, I had my Mother sell it because she didn't drive and I couldn't see that car just sitting around, rusting.

Something I always said to my people when I have a kid, I am buying them a junk car(not something with tires wiggling like I had to deal with). But it always made me wonder why "why!" parents buy there new driver(16 yr old a new car)? No offense to people that got new cars when young. But this age and specially my area and what I see. There was not 1 day of school someone did not get into an accident that smash a car totally. There was so many bumps and people hitting cars it was rediculous. And no offense I seen men do it to.. but woman just hit a car bumper on top of other bumper. Yet girl goes to class and doesnt report it(when her car is sitting on top of a teachers car). :-D I just see people and think they do not know how to drive. Like I litterally have friends myself that cant drive worth a darn. I like to drive when I am in a car. I mostly drive everywhere now. I had a friend that would sit at stop sign and wait for cars 2 blocks down or 3 blocks down and still wait for it to pass(like it was going to hit him to go). lol I mean come on!

My first car was a '66 Chevelle . . . I loved that car, and would trade my truck for in the shape it was in when I had it in a flat minute. I also had to buy it myself - I worked at an A&W and saved up the $250.00 for it. That was in 1977 . . . sure can't get one for that price now!

@silas - I had an 84 Chevette also. It was maroon, and a four door. It had air conditioning but when you'd turn it on it would suck all the power out of the engine - it was like kicking the car in the groin, lol. Thing ran forever, though. At 6' I didn't fit very well in it - it was pretty much my wife's car.

@Bill wow a Healey3000 neat, I guess you came off nearly second best but still beats my 1980s Fiesta!

I now love Italian design hence last 6 cars have been FIATs including a rare Stilo Abarth 2.4 (5cyl) manual homologation rally varient, not go that now as it ate fuel like I eat chinese food, now onto turbo cars, euro cars small engine and turbo adds BHP similar to large engine car, my 1.4 has 170bhp is tweaked a little.

My twin brother and I bought a 1950 white tudor ford, in 1955 (we were 15), like the one in the picture attached only without the fancy hubcaps or fender skirts. It was awesome. Until my bro dropped the tranny on the street trying to speed-shift.
    lol

Well, I screwed up again!! I said that my first car was a 1949 Ford, well I lied! It was a 1946 Ford!! 1949 was the year I was born and, for some reason, I confused the two! What made me realize my mistake was Gensuknives when he posted a picture of a 1950 Ford and I knew they hadn't changed body styles for the 49\50 model year. So, after much diligent searching (Google) I found my car, or rather ex-car:-o http://www.tvhistory.tv/1946_Ford.JPG The only difference being mine was black and a four-door! Now, I finally got it right!!:celebrate

First car I paid for was a 10 year-old '69 Cougar 390. Thing burnt a quart of oil every 100 miles. Also, over 70 the cloth ceiling would detach itself from the roof and would come down on our heads. :-D I only had it for 4 days as I wiped out on a wet pavement S-curve dotted with fallen leaves and spun into the ditch where a smallish rock ripped my oilpan+ out but stopped short of hitting his big brother!:eek No one got hurt.:)

Was paid for by a summer of being a laborer at a brick mason company.
Bought it in '73 with 40K and sold to my dad in '77 with 120K. Wish I had it back now.
(And it is physically possible to have 1 guy and 10 girls in the car with the top up. 4th gear was wonderful.;))

Mine was a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder, now sadly totaled in an accident I was in last year. My poor car... :(

I didn't need a car until I moved to the US, nor did I have the finances for one, so I'm pretty sure that I was older than anyone else in this thread when I got my first car. Go me! :-D

Back in 88 I got a 74 Cali Custom VW Beetle. It had a deep rich candy apple red paint job with large metallic flakes that really made it stand out. It had black five star mag style wheels with spinners. The interior panels, shifter and steering wheel were custom. Strangers came up to me admiring the paint job all the time. I miss it and wish I would have kept it. I would have liked to upgrade the engine to a fast one. I wrecked it skidding around a corner into a ditch during a rain storm a year or so later and sold it shortly afterward.

That can be true about teens with expensive cars although the one's I knew who had them never wrecked them or were hit by other drivers. I had several accidents back then due mostly to other teens hitting me in different cars I owned and in my case the drivers were all girls. Several classmates had accidents too but at least they had fairly cheap cars. One friend was hospitalized after a accident in his beetle to where he may very well have suffered less injuries with a expensive car depending on how it was made so it can be good or bad for teens to have expensive cars it just depends on how you look at it.

Speaking of teens and their first cars, well my son doesn't know it yet, but he'll be inheriting the car I drive now. It's safe, it's rather large and it is heavy. At least with a car like that he'll stand a chance in an accident depending, of course, on what hits him, or what he hits! It's a 1994 Mercedes S500. I'll feel a lot safer with him driving that than I would one of the new 'green' cars.http://s43.photobucket.com/albums/e396/xdrpa/Mercedes/?action=view&current=DSCF2631.jpg

    55' Buick, and a story
My husband and I had a co-signer being so young, just had a baby. He requested we give him the money and he would make the payments to be sure they got made.
After about 4 months there was a tow truck hooking it up. Turns out the ol' coot was pocketing the money. :(

    1974 Malibu Classic 2 door.

Had it about 2 months before it got wrecked by some drunk.

I have had a whole series of cars that were just junk. Probably haven't owned a vehicle longer than 4 years ever. The longest I had a car was a 1987 Ford Escort that burst into flames one winter. Should have just let that thing burn up.

Hi Bill! If I'm not mistaken, wasn't the S600 back then a 12 cylinder? I believe now though, the 600's are just a HUGE V-8! I could be way off base on that, which wouldn't be the first time!:-o
