Okay here is the problem.. I started my desktop (HP Pavalion a6300f) the other day and it did not load. It started to make one short beep and then one long one. so I went to the computer shop and he told me I had to upgrade my RAM memory. So I did and still nothing, so I took my CPU to him and he did some test while I went to work. I came back and he told me I needed to buy a new motherboard. Is this true? Is their anything I can try first? If I have to buy a new motherboard where can I buy one and which one's are compatibly with my system. I know it is a lot of questions but I am lost. Thank-you for any advice that is given in advance.

Yes, those beeps do indicate a RAM problem according to this. So the tech then replaced the bad RAM as that is not an upgrade? Just want to be clear. You brought it home and what beeps did you get then?

BTW, where are my manners. Welcome aboard!

Hey put the old RAM back in it, and that is when he told me about the motherboard. I just got home and have not tried it again. Thanks for the welcome, I really like this site..a lot of knowledge floating around here.

So then since he put the old RAM back so it should be good, hopefully. I think you have the Foxconn MCP73M01H1 w\DDR 2 RAM according to this(click it) but it's no longer available unless you go on E-Bay etc. Do you have an HP code or serial# you could enter into their database to double check my findings?

If you want to get a newer yet equivalent board, (in the $50-$80 range) Oh, please check the wattage marked on your power supply though a new board shouldn't take much more than your original unless you add a PCI-E video card.

Also, there are tons of videos on Youtube incase you need a visual reference on a how-to replace/install a motherboard and CPU. Let's start with first things first.;)

Thanks for all the info! I was wondering if this motherboard is a good one to add. ASUS P5KPL-AM SE LGA 775 Intel G31 Intel Motherboard All I do on my computer is military work, and my wife does college work. No gaming or anything like that. If it will not work is their a site that will tell me one that is compatable? Thanks again!
