Does anyone else here like re-purposing old electronics? I have been having fun turning old camera flashes into new and exciting toys. :-D

My latest project was a stun gun:

I got used disposable cameras from the local photo developer for free, and I pulled the flash circuit out of the casing:

Then I removed the flash tube (as well as the trigger contacts, the flimsy battery holder, and the charge indicator LED):

Then I took my components, including a casing for the indicator LED:

Two binding posts, which I used as electrodes, mounting them backwards:

    A two-post toggle switch:

    A replacement 1 x AA battery holder:

And, of course, a project box to mount it all in:

First step, I wired up my components:

And then, I soldered them onto the flash circuit:

And finally, mounted them all in the project box:

This thing will deliver a momentary 300V shock, with a charge-discharge cycle of about 20s. I've intentionally nerfed it a bit since I don't want anyone getting seriously hurt; just..... surprised. LOL (Actually, the guy who commissioned this project seems to think he can use it to treat snake bites, despite having no voltage, or electrode depth, or width specifications.)

Anyone else have neat projects to share?

LOL, I was expecting this to be the modern day equivalent of the 'hand buzzer'! I was a mean bugger at 12, got myself a model T sparker, put one wire under a wet mat and the other was hooked to the door knob. Come on in, the door's open!roflmao Glad no one got hurt though.:)

LMAO Mada thats neat, you have just remined me of the days I worked for Kodak and we used to recycle those disposable cameras, the amount of times that I would be moving the used cameras from one bin to a larger one and getting zapped was unbelievable, felt like someone had grabbed you when the jolt came!

Never thought of used the capacitors for a zap gun..... superb :)

Augie, with the amount of those that came through the lab I worked at, indeed I would be, also would be in batteries for life as the ones in them where generally not far off full capacity,

Remember the early ones, in that you had to break them open in a dark room or bag to get to the film, and trying to do that in the dark, the screams/language from the dark room at times was LMAO.

I still have the plans somewhere to build a very inexpensive microscope using pvp pipe and disposable camera lens'. It was a great school project for the 7th graders.

Then I found a relatively new chest freezer ( inside was seamless ) and with a small board and a hot water heater element, made a nice japanese soaking tub!! :-D

I tried doing that a while back with no success at all
