I only open attachments if I'm expecting them. Where's the option for 'Yes and No'? LOL

Ya same here, my friends are jerks and keep sending me these fw: fw: fw: etc. crap even when I tell them to stop it! They must be damn lucky man not to have gotten hit yet!

Id open attachments if a friend did send them. But I couldn't remember the last time I got an attachment from a friend. I do have a friend that I know his computer has virus and etc on it. Because his email sends me emails all the time and back when I used msn it was that well known virus sending msg to people on msn saying go to my profile picture link. But he also likes looking at different websites once in a while.. and so that causes this most likely. So why clean if you just re infect.

Would be smarter to open in a sandbox or VM if you really wanted to know what was sent.

I only open attachments if I am expecting something. Like augiedoggie said - alot of the crap I get from friends are thosed damned forwards and chain letter junk.

@hrlow2 If I choose to do "risky" surfing or want to open unknown attachments, I do indeed use a virtual machine for that purpose - I have a Windows 2000 set up and if it gets infected, I just replace it. Pretty nifty. I even have a Win98SE VM . . . but I don't do much with it anymore except play some really, really old games.

Like the Major said - it looks like all the PC troubleshooters out there have a secure future, lol

I have a different approach as I seldom open any email with FWD in the subject line. From what I get forwarded, PC troubleshooting is alive and profitable.

Should have not made the poll anonymous Tim as would have loved to see who where the ones who clicked "only if its porn" TimW was a given but the others ;)

We had a case in work a while back where an employee was summoned to the IT Security dept and their line managers office, when asked why they had been opening porn WWW pages, their answer was, I wanted to double check the pages before reporting them, the reply came, you needed to check 300 times? (all traffic and email content in our workplaces is monitored)

Wow. I would have had a blast with that guy. Turn the lights out, grab the shotgun, (unload it of course), and rack the slide, and yell 'PULL'!! While using an infrared camera on him. Bet he would not have fallen asleep again. For a while. :-D

When that guy got caught by the FBI for downloading porn and visiting illicit sites and it turned out a hacker had taken over his machine and set it up to visit a million sites a day and constantly download porn.

Timw hired the hacker to setup his machine like that :-D

Yes, I would open an attachment from a friend. The very definition of the word friend demands respect, trust, loyality, and a deep understanding of each other. Respectfully, Machiavel

The very definition of a virus is to fool you into opening something.

That is why our Malware forum is so busy. Trusting a friend is completely separate from trusting any executable/attachment online. One has zero to do with the other. One example being a virus that takes control of a machine and sends mass infected emails out to all the person's 'friends'.

Like I said few of my friends like to use porn site and they got virus on there computer as we speak. I keep getting emails of them wanting me to open/go to links which I know isnt from him truly. So just because there friends doesnt mean safe.
