Really need some help here guys!

I am a pretty experienced PC user and upgrader and know my way around fixing most issues, but this is stumping me a little.

Was in the bios checking on couple of things before installing win7 on mates dell XPS gen3, hadn't made any changes and was about to exit the bios when my mate decided to reset. Now the system boots into the vga bios screen and doesn't go any further. It just gets stuck and won't bring up the motherboard bios screen, no mem check, no cpu info, no HDD check, nothing.

Does this mean the bios has been currupted and if so, is there any way around this? Or is the bios, as I fear, totally screwed?! If so, can the bios chip be replaced on the motherboard and if so, any ideas on what chip and where I can get it? Or is it possible to flash the bios manually, by using a handheld cmos rewriter (as it isn't even getting to floppy check, so can't do software bios flash). Have tried the motherboard bios reset jumper, but still nothing.

Please peeps, any help is seriously appreciated.

Try, after all the power down, wait, and other precautions, removing the on board battery, take a 20 minute break, put it back in. This should reset the BIOS to default values. :wave:wave

Please note some Dell desktops may have a reset jumper for the password/BIOS and this may be quicker. Just remove the jumper and either leave it off or switch it to the open pin (depends on model) and boot up, then power down after the "BIOS Reset" screen.

Please note I am not sure if this is even an option for you so check the Dell manual.

Actually collins approach is better, if you can find it. Sometimes it is very easy, oftimes I don't even look for that and just take the battery out. :wave

Just as a follow-up point re my previous post, the Dell Manuals are available online on the Dell Website.

Some Dell computers have a password reset jumper, and some of them may have a CMOS clear button or jumper, but I am not sure if your model does or not.
