I just lost from Windows Explorer my laptops dvd-rom drive and now while Windows XP seems to find an unknown hardware and ask me to enter drivers, when i ask it to search the internet they can't find anything and because I don't have a drivers cd for the cdrom I cannot install the correct drivers and i dont know the correct model of the dvd.
I deleted from the registry the values the microsoft support suggested (I only found lower filters, no upper filters) and I unistalled Alcohol 120% and Nero. I finally tried to install Service Pack 3 so I can run Fix It from Microsoft Support, but the installation stuck.
Any suggestions cause I really need the DVD Rom

P.s. my dvdrom has charge cause it ejects when i press the button

It is possible the drive has failed or a controller for it has issues so you might consider motherboard drivers.

    AMD chip:

    Intel Chip:

If that works, great, otherwise boot into safe mode and try to install service pack 3.

Since you do not have it already installed, I fear a virus and would love to see you do a scan with Malwarebytes anti-malware if all else fails.

Those mobo drivers you're proposing, can I install them inside Windows or I must install theme another way?

I Finally managed to install SP3 inside Windows normal mode, i couldnt though install intell drivers package cause a message appeared saying my system requirements doesnt support the installation. I contacted the supplier of the laptop asking for drivers for my cdrw.
It is a clevo, model :m3sw, product name : m375s. If anyone could help me find those drivers....

By the way Windows recognize I have an unknown device, as you can see at the attachement, but they cannot install any drivers.

I would never pay for a CD with drivers. I have not used a CD driver in 10 years, useless.

Remove the device, see if windows detects it correctly on reboot.

I don't support theft but I definitely don't want to purchase a drivers cd.
Major Attitude I did remove the device, rebooted and windows detected it the same...
    Any more suggestions?
At the Clevo official site doesn't seem to have my model, maybe it's under different code but wich one?

to collins: Since windows detect the drive with the name shown in the picture I attached isn't it supposed to work ?
I will check my bios though and I will inform asap.
I'd like you to answer my question though

    Hi Lyckos

Just to see if we can find a model code for your Laptop model at Clevo, could you run the below, it will also give us information on your chipset and other drivers, so may help.

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

*do hope it all doesnt come out in Greek as my Greek is non-existant.

Your original post references the fact that you have an unknown device in Device Manager and no CD drive so that would suggest to me that Windows cannot see any CDs or DVDs that are placed into the drive. This is where I drew my information from and if it is incorrect I apologise.

Halo: I finally downloaded Everest and made the report you asked for. It seems that my model is M360S. The most similar to this in download section of Clevo is: M3x0S/M3x5S Series but when i click on that there is no chipset driver inside. I contacted the dealer where I bought the laptop from and it told me to download the M38AW chipset driver which doesnt seem to have any relation to my laptop, but I thought what the hec he must know better. But when I try to run it, it says that the installation utility requires a supported platform system to run in a supported OS. As I see it it is the wrong file to download.
