E-mail hijack?

The strangest thing happened today for the 1st time.
I received about 50 e-mails , supposedly sent by me to me,that were obvious spam.
I am concerned that someone will get an e-mail thinking it is from me, and go to a bad link.
I called Yahoo, and they said not to worry about it - easy for them to say.
It also wiped out my "sent" folder.
I will change my password.
Anything else to do?

Here is a general guide for dealing with email infections:

Malware detected in email databases has to be cleaned up by you. You have a few choices:

1. delete the whole file which is not an option you normally want to use
2. load the email folder that contains the infection and delete ALL unnecessary emails (hoping to remove the problem email) and then use the Mailbox Cleanup option to delete all old emails. Then compact the Outlook database to permanently remove data. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/196990 If you do not cleanup and compact the databases, the deleted emails may still be leaving hidden information in the database that you just cannot see but a scanner may still pickup on it.
3. create a new folder and move only emails you really need into the new folder and then delete the infected folder.

Thanks for your reply,
My Outlook is merged with my Yahoo.
All the spam e-mails came to my Yahoo box, not Outlook. All mail normally goes to both.
Do I perform the same procedure on my Yahoo account?

Yes, basically the same thing on the Yahoo account, unless you would rather delete that account and create a new one. But you can set up a second in box and move what you KNOW to not be infected to that and then nuke everything else including any false "friends" in your contact list. Do use a different computer to change your password.

Why do I need to use a different computer to change password?
Just curious.

Standard protocol when having any malware infections. You want to be sure that nothing on your system is set to catch any passwords you type.
