CRT monitor screen went white.

This happened this morning while playing an emulated game (gameboy color). The whole screen went white and sound was off and I couldn't get the Task Manager to open so it must have been a freeze. I'm suspecting it's a software issue because this happened the morning after I installed a bunch of Windows updates (after a long time of not downloading anything from Microsoft's updates).

I am ready to follow instructions carefully, so can someone help with analyzing my system to see what's the software that's caused it? It's only happened once so far, but I don't want to have to wait till I get it the second time before I start getting help.

Just a note: the computer was making annoying beeps every now and then (until I unplugged the motherboard speaker) and the monitor would flicker during the beeps. It was 9 short but loud beeps every time it happened.

Please post computer make and model. Also download and install SpeedFan and post back temperatures:http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

What do you know? It just happened again.

It's not a white screen problem actually. More like a freeze problem. Windows updates maybe?

    Something seems impossible.

That's just SpeedFan. I have a Temp3: 80C in mine and I know for a fact that the component it refers to already has a temp (temp2) and the temp2 is accurate.

SpeedFan sometimes reports sensors that aren't there, or the value of connection spaces on the chips which have no physical probe connected.

Those temps don't seem off, except for the -128C!:-D Unless the OP is in the Antarctica, still kind of low.

Any chance your box is dirty? And try reseating the RAM boards and wiggle/tighten other connections.

    I can't find anything with a 9 beep code.

Check your restore points, and restore at least two points back, to eliminate an update issue.

    Are you a cCleaner user?
    cCleaner

Run both cleaner and registry cleaner, it can resolve a lot of miscellaneous issues.

Does this only happen when running that game? And what OS and browser? How much RAM?

And any errors in your device manager?

Still could be either software or hardware, and this information will help find that out.

The more details you can think of to post, the better advice you will receive.

I think I know what the problem is. Uninstalling the recent updates didn't help at all. It's actually a loose monitor cable. The screen went off for a while until I fiddled a bit with the position of the cable and it was back on.

Ram is good: 1.87 GB (yep, that one does sound impossible also, lol).

OS: XP Pro (not sure anymore if it's Service Pack 2 or 3)
Browser: You mean for the Internet? I have both IE and Firefox (if that's what you mean).

And the beeps were more like 3-3-3 (3 sets of 3s). Must be the monitor maybe. It's quite old anyway.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

And no, it's happened when I'm not playing any games also. By the way, something confuses me. If it was just a monitor thing, then why did the sound go off. Could there be a problem in the case also (like Video card or something)? It is a freeze problem after all.

I forgot to tell you about the Device Manager. The drivers are all good. No corruption as far as I can see.
