A new member signed up just today.
5 posts already, but all pretty much the same.
"good info. Will share with my friends."
Don't see any spam links, so just trying to build their post count?

I've seen folks do that to get in and then change their sig to add spam to it. I can't recall but I think MG's only allows a sig change on subsequent posts and not past ones. I'm not saying it's a wannabe spammer, but maybe they want to get to 50 posts so they can use the PM system. We had problems like this with phpBB 2.xx

They'll get a rude surprise if they ever get there!:bangheadroflmao

After running into identical responses, was ready to believe that I had mistakenly returned to one I had already saw.
Went to their home page and checked all posts by them.
Glad I wasn't losing it. 4 out of 5 are identical.

I totally agree but they're stoopid!! Ever seen one try to hide a link in a smiley or a punctuation mark? Clever, but they get busted too! Or posting in a little used forum like folding or benching. rolleyes Most of us know on MG's as the expertise level is high here but go to a less techy site where they talk about gardening would be less inclined to spot it or they may even click on it.

Do you ever see any of us regulars in the malware forums? I rest my case.:)

The member in question is being watched as it could be a spammer for the reasons augie mentioned. They are sometimes creative. Usually if you see something suspicious it's best to report one of the posts and leave an explanation.

The poster could be profiling the threads so that they can return back to the ones that they have marked for future reference rather than cluttering up the list of favourite links or unfamiliar with subscribing to threads.

Actually you can usually spot a spammer by the screen name. It's usually something like 'jil34213' It most times isn't even a real poster. I suggest googling Xrumer. I've seen this program in action, it will do what it says.

May have already been removed. Can't even find in the members list now, or the posts that got my attention.

Yes gone now as I deleted them, and xrumer is a pain but its effective, however not all spammers use the likes of xxx123456 as a user name, but their are clues and lists to find out who is or is not, wont post openly what tips we use as it will alert the spammers.
