I am having a problem with the administrative tools services. It recently changed so it automatically stops my theme (starts up with windows classic theme) and my DHCP Client (so the internet does not work at startup). It is a very annoying problem that I would like to fix, but I don't know how! I've looked through the registry but I don't want to mess anything up. Do any of you know an easy fix to this?

I have a client with the exact same problem. I haven't solved the themes issue, but I did solve the DHCP issue. I flushed the DNS, rebooted and that seemed to take care of the Internet and the DHCP not working.

You can flush the DNS by going to Start>Run>type "cmd", hit enter> type "ipconfig /flushdns" (without the quotes, make sure the space is there between the g and the /.)

I'm having the same exact problem. I'm fairly confident it is a virus, but no antivirus software is finding it.

I've seen this same problem on several forums, and it seems to have developed this week. No solutions! It's extremely frustrating, I've spent 12+ hours trying to fix this today. Gotten nowhere.

The other issue I'm having is that as soon as this developed, Google Chrome is no longer working. My other browsers will work (once I start DHCP again), but not Chrome.

Here's hoping McAfee, or something comes out with a fix SOON.

    NEED SLEEP!

If you think this is a virus, then head over to the malware forum here. Please read this thread and carry out all instructions in it to start: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

In the process of editing this it was over 10 min and could not edit it anymore, but here are my RootRepeal and MGtools logs. MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware came up clean, and Combofix didn't do anything when I ran it.

I can't find my MGtoolslog but here is this for now. I will edit this when I get back.

I had a similar problem that no antiviruses were picking up. I ran TDSSKiller which found an infected file and removed it. Once i rebooted, the services started as normal. I hope it helps you too :)

You have an MBR infection and should have posted your logs in the malware forum. Go ahead and run TDSKiller and also run:
Please run this: GMER - running with a random name and attach the log from GMER.

    Attach both logs!!

Be sure you have disabled any disc emulation software from running first!
